The book is " Prescription for Nutritional Healing " by F. & Phyllis

A. Balch (both last names are Balch). I found mine at Sam's Wholesale;

however, I've seen them for sale in a couple of different healthfood

stores.

I also saw them for sale in Eckerd's Pharmacy. I've heard that they

have

a new edition that will be coming out soon. I love the book. My

husband

bought it for me 2.5 years ago and I use it a lot. Every disorder that

one

can think of is in this book with recommendations about nutrients,

herbs,

and other considerations.

I showed the book to my RA specialist and she wasn't impressed.

That's why I'd like to find another doctor; however, there aren't

any and I'm having to figure out things myself.

I've been watching the Youtube demonstrations of the Vitamix and am intrigued with the amount of knowledge the demonstrators have regarding nutrition. I was watching vitamixlady's clip (she's awesome) about the cantaloupe seeds, pineapple core etc etc. Is there any good book where I can learn more about this kind of stuff?? I'd love to learn more about the nutriotn of fruits and vegetables and thought someone on here might be able to offer a recommendation for a good book or two. Thanks,Craig

Aw shucks Craig - thanks!I hate to say that my knowledge of nutrition came about due to my research for the purpose of curing my own illness (chronic fatigue for 7 years). I didn't have much energy, but did have enough to sit at the computer and research, research, research!I fully agree with Fran's recommendation to get the book, "Green For Life" and I also LOVE, "Nourishing Traditions" (you will learn a lot about foods from that book). Raw Food cookbooks are also full of healthy recipes (you don't have to be a raw foodist to eat mostly raw and use lots of their recipes :-)To be honest, I did a lot of research on the specific ingredients that I use in my demonstrations because when I was a new demonstrator I wanted to have SOMETHING to say as I was preparing the food. So I looked up nutrition facts on each fruit/veggie I used and that helped give me something to say :-)Here was one of the really good resources that I used...http://whfoods.org/foodstoc.phpand another...http://www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org/?page_id=164I also just found these books referenced at this online source for food nutrition information...http://www.HealingFoodReference.com/index.htmlThe Doctors Book of Herbal Home Remedies - Cure Yourself With Nature's Most Powerful Healing Agents, by the Editors of Prevention Health BooksThe Food Bible, by Judith WillsBreast Cancer, Breast Health! Here's another good source for nutritional information of foods: http://nutritiondata.self.com/ Boutenko (the "inventor" of Green Smoothies) reminded me of this one in her blog today.http://greensmoothiesblog.com/green-smoothie-in-your-phone/?utm_source=feedburner & utm_medium=email & utm_campaign=Feed%3A+GreenSmoothiesBlog+%28Green+Smoothies+Blog+by++Boutenko%29

You're welcome Lea Ann :))

That's amazing that you healed yourself through nutrition. Such an inspiration,

well done!

I went through a year of chemo a few years ago for a hep c (which i got from a

body piercing - now cured) and had raw juices everyday while on treatment and

felt so much better because of it. The nurses and doctors were surprised I went

thru it so well. Mind you it was a hell of a ride but could have been worse if

didn't eat so well. Being 26 (now 29) at the time probably helped too. But now I

want to understand the nutrition side a bit more. It's so interesting.

My vitamix arrived two days ago and oh my goodness I'm in love with it! I've

made 3 green smoothies, a semi-frozen fruit smoothie and tonight is the hot

tortilla soup for dinner, hummus dip & chunky guacamole dip (for xmas eve

tomorrow).

I can't believe how awesome this machine is. My old blender used to smell of

smoke because the engine couldn't cope. I'm so glad it broke because it was good

excuse to get a vitamix. Everything is just so smooth in it.

And thank you for all of the links, I'll be spending a lot time reading through

them.

I look forward to learning more from this forum and exchanging recipes as they

arise.

Oh, and I just ordered Green for Life ;)
