Thursday I just had a relapse, and was rushed to the hospital again

Thursday night. It seems that I am having heart spasms, which the doctor

says are not harmful to the heart (but are very painful). There seems to

be 2 meds for it Norvasc and the beta blockers. Beta blockers are out

for me since it drops my heart rate down below 30 beats per minute and

my normal blood pressure is 70/60 (hypotension), so I am on Norvasc

(which the Dr is not happy with because of my AIH) Norvasc is not liver

friendly. The other new med I am on is a daily nitro patch to stop the

angina. He believes my Autoimmune problems (Rheumatic Fever and AIH) has

played a role in my heart problems, I think he said that because of the

Rheumatic Fever. The good thing is that he is calling my hep so that

they can work together on my meds, he also wants me off prednisone and

put on something else like imuran or some other medication (I wish him

luck).

Update on my mother-in-law - They found colon cancer, and has spread to

other parts of the body. This is not good. Please say a prayer for her,

she needs it.

Hi Clyde, yes it is very maddening when you expect the doctors to know more

than you. I know there are new diseases found every day but AIH was not

discovered just this year for heaven's sake. They are required to take

continuing education courses but it makes you wonder if they do. But like I

said he turned to be nice and concerned so I didn't show by rear end. I know

AIH isn't as common as say cancer or many other illnesses but please people

wake up. We need to have an awareness day, don't you

Yes it's very maddening! I would also think that they should have some

sort of reference material for ER doctors to reference if they are

unsure of something (And I would hope AIH would be in it). I was

somewhat impressed with the first ER doctor - Waiting 2 hours for an ICU

room, the doctor wasn't busy and he spent those two hours with me

" learning " about AIH because he didn't know (and he was man enough to

say that) and he wanted to know. But the second time at the other

hospital, I had to show my " rear " (and what a big one), especially when

he told the nurse it was not AIDS but a hepatitis virus (how wrong can

you be?).

Clyde & Genny,

I had a horrible experience with a dentist, he abruptly told me he

couldn't work on my teeth, this after I had told him I had AIH.. I cried

for hours after returning home. It was the worst most humiliating

experience of my life. Ever since that moment I have carried a letter

explaining what AIH is, does and what it CANNOT do. It was terrible.

Clyde,

I did bring this to the attention of the dental board, but they

investigated it and decided they could not discipline the dentist. I

did write him a letter explaining that he should not be expected to know

every disease but he should know how to handle this kind of a

situation. I did chew him out a bit as did my doctor who wrote a little

note on my behalf.

As for you, you sound much better than you did a few weeks ago. You

have had a tough time of your own. Very nice to meet you.

Hi Clyde, I wasn't concerned about the ER doctor treating Jodi because my

husband had called ahead and told them we were coming and to call her Gastro

Dr. Even though he did not come in he was on the phone with them. I gave

blood today and the lady working there had to call the main office to see if

I could give because my daughter has AIH. Of course she didn't know what it

is and even after I explained to her she had to call and make sure. That was

OK though because I want them to be on the safe side. She was very

interested because she's in nurses training. The blood bank had called me

twice because they are having a shortage right now. I'm giving every time I

can and putting it in Jodi's name so when she has to be on the transplant

list we will have plenty. I also am a member of a very large church where we

can get more if needed. Hope you are feeling good tonight, have a restful

Way to GO! You did the right thing! As for me, the dr released me and I

can go back to work next monday (My wife is really happy). I had a tough

time, but hopefully it was a small detour.

Joan... what a horrible expeience..... being new to this disease I

haven`t had time to meet up with such predjudice... I hope I don`t as I

still have a hard time controlling my temper but I`m working on it....

for letting me know the the TO and FROM lines are in red, I can work on

that today, when I get back from the hospital. When I figure out the

problem, I'll leave instructions in the message group. Sorry for not

making this big fonts, I use netscape mail, and it doesn't have a easy

setting for that.

No problem. I am 53 years old and I have all the problems of " my arms

are getting too short. " Other than that I can see pretty good. I am just

thinking about the other people who are not as lucky as me.

I don't have AIH but it didn't stop me from contacting Dr. Knoop's

website. I sent a copy of the letter I wrote him asking for him to do a

report on AIH and other liver diseases. I have been getting his newsletter

for several years now and I guess it is about time he did something on what

I am interested in. My mother has AIH and died Oct. 3 of this year, and I

am trying to learn all I can about it because I'm suing the doctor for

malpractice. If I can be of help to anyone else in the mean time, that is

better. Hope everything goes o.k. at the hospital. And don't tire yourself

out over my stupid " puter. " Whenever you get around to it is great. No

Yes, that could be why, plus I noticed you are using AOL as your mail

client. Not all mail clients are equal :-) . Without seeing it on your

computer, I could guess that AOL " thinks " Carolyn's message or some part

of it is an attachment. Do you know what version of AOL you are using?

AOL might not be " compliant " with windows. When the box comes up is

there a file name in the box? If there is, what is the file name? Yes,

next time, try and see what happens.

Hi Clyde, I am using Windows 4.0 with AOL. No one else's post come through

like Carolyn's. I tried to figure out what to do when the download manager

comes up and clicked ? and it wouldn't tell me anything. Yes, there was a

file name yesterday I sent it in the previous post I sent you. I don't

remember now but I think it was black background. As I was telling Carolyn a

friend of mine sent me several things that have to be downloaded and I just

don't know how to do it. I will ask my niece to come over and help me one

Clyde, I just read your post to Aumesh. Your not taking any calcium I see,

may I ask why? Jodi's Hepatologist says its very important for her to take

three a day. I know women need it more than men but I would have though

Doc told me I could get my daily dosage via skim milk until I had the

bone density test. I'll ask him about it next month.

Hi Clyde: The hepatitis never went away I'm sorry to say. Just like AIH,

getting a new liver just takes care of a problem that the hepatitis caused

but who knows for how long. It's still there but no one knows how long it

will be before it causes the same damage again. Medications help to control

the disease for most people but does not cure it. I guess it's pretty hard

to cure a disease that they don't know how you get in the first place. I

pray for a cure in the near future because as any of us that have been with

the group at least a year knows the number of people with AIH and Hep. C is

growing rapidly.

I hope your friend's wife the very best. Please tell them to hang in

there, the cure could be right around the corner.

I hate that you're having a hard time. That really sucks. I haven't

been feeling real great either and in the back of my head I worry

about it being a relaspe. I never thought a day would come when I

would be praying to just be sick. I'm on 50mg of imuran and I'm down

to 12.5mg of prednisone. Along with these I'm on 600mg. of

ursodial. Anyone else on all three?
