Guest guest Posted November 3, 2004 Report Posted November 3, 2004 It's a common side effect of $ynthroid. Most hypos are undertreated, untreated or on the wrong med. Gracia > > Hi, I am new too. Guest guest Posted November 3, 2004 Report Posted November 3, 2004 A side effect!! That sure explains a lot!! Why doesn't the doctors tell you these things?? So, should I be on a different drug? I thought I was loosing my mind before I was diagnosed! No energy at all!! I Don't want to ever go through that again. I still feel that I have not gained all my energy back. I seem to tire very easily. Tiredness can develop with either too much or too little dosage. Or, it could just go with the nausea and vomiting. Do you have other characteristic symptoms that would tell you which it is? Sorry if I don't recall the earlier posts, if you told us those already. Chuck Quote

Guest guest Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 Hi Gracia & Chuck, I take my synthroid at bedtime (50 mcg). Last night about an hour or so after taking it, I started getting really cold and went to bed covering up with many blankets. Hand and feet were very cold. Then after a few minutes I felt a sick feeling in my stomach, no longer was I cold. I got up to go to the bathroom. I felt like I was going to throw up, but I only gagged, then couldn't get off the floor. I felt faint and broke out in a sweat. It didn't last to long, and then I was ok. I was no longer cold though. I have not had this happen to me for a long time. When I first started taking this medication this happened to me 3 nights in a row, same time. I always blamed it on acid reflux, but I really don't think that is the problem now. Also, I am so fatigued all the time, just like before I started on medication. I was going back to the doctor and insisting the I need a higher dose, but the test would show other wise. The last test that I had was only 5 days ago. It was 2.70 a few months before this it was 1. something, can't remember now. Being so fatigued is driving me nuts! A glucose test was done and showed that I am " becoming " a diabetic. But, changing my diet took care of that, but I am still very fatigued. :-(( I just don't know what else to do. I am not really over weight. I need to loose about 20 lbs. but that is all. Thanks, Kathy Re: Hey guys, new to hypothyroidism here! vomiting and nausea are hypoadrenal symptoms. Guest guest Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 I think you would do better to take meds in a.m. Sounds like the med is stressing your adrenals. I like Armour better and do not treat to TSH. Makes more sense to feel better than to treat a piece of paper, but TSH is geared to T4 meds like $ynthroid. Guest guest Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 It is generic zantac I believe. Why treat the side effect of one drug with another drug???? Most people who take " acid reducers " need digestive enzymes. Acid reducers cause nutritional problems due to impaired digestion. That is a fairly low dose, so you need to be alert to the fact that your requirements may be changing. Also, morning is a better time to take Synthroid. Your stomach needs to be completely empty, which late in the day can take several hours. Chuck Quote
Guest guest Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 Hi Everyone, My Dr. said that I don't need it changed. I keep complaining about being so fatigued. I think Gracia has a good point about stressing the adrenals. This might be the answer. I know I was suppose to take it in the morning, but I thought that I would not be as tired if I took it at bedtime. Will having coffee with cream in the mornings hurt anything? My druggist said that it wouldn't. How long after taking the medication do you wait to have breakfast? I will try taking it as soon as I get up now! Thanks guys!! I wish I would of joined this group a long time ago! Everyone is so helpful! :-)) Kathy Re: Hey guys, new to hypothyroidism here! Guest guest Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 Don't trust the doc and the numbers! Some docs leave us very undertreated. You need to get free T3 and free T4 tests. What is the TSH that doc says is OK? I chew up my Armour and then drink coffee with cream. Gracia > > Hi Everyone, > > My Dr. said that I don't need it changed. How long after taking the medication do > you wait to have breakfast? ... The strongest warnings are about calcium carbonate, which interferes with T4 absorption for hours after you take it. However, the calcium in dairy products, such as your cream, is not in the carbonate form. If there is any interference by coffee, I have not noticed it, and the real key is reproducibility. Take the same amount at the same time each day, so the test will match those conditions. I feel a very slight stimulation after taking Synthroid/levothyroxine, so I would not even consider taking it at night. With a nighttime dose, your lowest T3 concentrations would then tend to occur in the afternoon, when you might want to be functional and not drooping. The morning dose puts the slump late at night or early morning, when you are sleeping anyway. Chuck Quote
Guest guest Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 On the scale, I am about right in the middle, is this what you are asking me? The scale is 0.465 - 4.68 and I am 2.70 Kathy Re: Hey guys, new to hypothyroidism here! > > > Kathy, > > You wrote: > > > Hi Gracia & Chuck, > > I take my synthroid at bedtime (50 mcg). ... > > That is a fairly low dose, so you need to be alert to the fact that your > requirements may be changing. Guest guest Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 Thanks for the info Chuck!! I am going to bed tonight without my synthroid! I sure hope I remember to take it in the morning!! Guest guest Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 well you might be surprised. I think the specialists are the worst. I have more faith in holistic docs, ones who know about hormones. http://www.brodabarnes.org http://www.geocities.com/thyroide Gracia > I think I need to go to a specialist. Guest guest Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 I am sure you need more meds. The revised high end is 3.3. Surely your doc could see his way to give you more meds for hypo symptoms? Gracia > > On the scale, I am about right in the middle, is this what you are asking me? Guest guest Posted November 5, 2004 Report Posted November 5, 2004 Chuck, I just had this done 6 days ago. Kathy Re: Hey guys, new to hypothyroidism here! Kathy, How old is that TSH number? You might have changed since then. Chuck Quote
Guest guest Posted November 5, 2004 Report Posted November 5, 2004 Kathy, You wrote: > ... I just had this done 6 days ago. Good, then that rules out change in thyroid output as a likely culprit. It suggests you have something else going on. My system seems to be happy with that sort of TSH, but lots of others on these lists are not. Chuck Quote
Guest guest Posted November 5, 2004 Report Posted November 5, 2004 Not sure if we have a good Holistic Dr. around here. Personally, I don't have a lot of faith in many Dr.'s either.
