Sharon,

If you don't feel better when on meds, and the other thyroid symptoms go

away, I would try maybe an herbal antidepressant like St. 's Wort,

5HTP, SAMe, and if that doesn't work, try a SSRI, etc. I am not telling

you what to do, but I have tried prescription antidepressants and now am

trying the herbal routes. If the herbal ones don't work, I will go back

on the prescription ones. Don't ever be ashamed of taking medicine for

depression. No shame it that. Millions of men and women are on

antidepressants.

You might want to cut down on caffiene and sugar also.

Hang in there.

Take care.

Hi all,

I used synthyroid for a year and half now I think.

I had tons of problems with hypo before the synthyroid.

The med helped mostly with:

Dry skin

Wire hair Scaling dry scalp

Brittle Nails

and most of all with the nightmare montly bleeding.

However,

Taking it I thought I was better but not great either.

I still kept getting more problems like sore muscles, thick arms

and thighs, and Major HAIR loss.

I am now OFF synthyroid.....

and all those additional problems are gone now.

I would sooner be on nothing like I am now than use synthyroid again.

there has to be a better way.

I heard Caffiene will counter act with it, so I cut it out, and took it on an

empty stomach. Still it did not make it more effective. I also got a bad

batch which is why I stopped taking it last month on my own.

I asked about Armour with my doc and he said he would not advise or

prescribe it. I am petrified to get yet another health problem either on

top of the hypothyroid.

Someone on another group said their doctor said Cytomel is only for

thyroid cancer patients. ?????? I have no idea.

I am just lost at what I can try next.

I am most grateful to find these groups more than anything!!!

Hi Kathie,

I am trying to keep up with all the groups again, at least

by reading, and I don't know where I say what when I reply, LOL.

I'm just so confused now that I had symptoms added from

the synthyroid on top of the hypo stuff. i thought it was all

from hypo. Just back to scratch now.

I am positive i have a lowT3. That was tested before and low.

Does the biothyroid have that in it also?

thanks,

Hannah

Hi again Hannah!

Yes the Bio-Throid has T3 in it, it is natural whole desiccated porcine thyroid, just like Armour..... it gives your body T1, T2, T3, & T4..... You can realllllllly feel the T3 kick in let me tell ya! But I feel fantastic, I didn't think I ever would feel this good again! I noticed today that the effect wasn't as strong as it was a couple days ago, and when that happens she (my ND) said she would up my dose until we get to an amount that I feel the same on constantly!

Check out the website for the Bio-Throid (The prices listed are RETAIL so if you doc or someone orders it for you be sure they don't charge you more than that!) Write down the web addy for your doc..... That's how I got mine, I emailed my ND the website and when I went to see her she said she ordered it for me! http://www.bio-tech-pharm.com/products/thyroid.html

Anyhow, enuf of my yakking for now!

Take care Hannah, I hope you start feeling better soon! Damn you've been having it rough lately!

Bad Advice!!

No one needs anti-depressant drugs or herbs!!

When thyroid function is restored naturally, when estrogen dominance is

reversed, when folks are taking good nutritional supplements [bee pollen is

the best concentrate available, totally natural and available from bee

keepers], is on a good nutritional program [www.thyrodine.com or

www.hacres.com not into sugar or alcohol or drugs, and has some life

excitement/interests, then depression is not a problem.

Again, we need to take responsibility for our own health and well being.

If someone is depressed they need to look at their life and figure out...

1-whats not happening in their life for which they feel depressed

2-what is happening that is creating the depressive events, like thyroid

disorders [which synthetic or pig " replacement " will not solve], like taking

drugs for any other health problems,

like drinking fluoridated water, like eating sugar or junk food or diet

colas with aspartame, or going to a job they hate..

Come on , its not OK to be taking drugs to wipe out one's

consciousness!

But that opens up the whole question of...

1-what is life all about? Are we meant to be robots and go to a meaningless

job and take drugs and eat junk food???

2-Is life a challenge...where we're having to actively discern what is

needed to remain healthy in a sick society?

3-Can we trust " professionals " who are only trained to prescribe poisons?

We've come to the point where it seems OK to say to someone, yes, its OK to

wipe out your consciousness as a guinea pig to some pharmaceutical toxin

that has probably killed 100,000 people so far or caused many to start

random shootings in schools.

WE need to wake up and become who we really are and not numb down as slaves.

Earl,

I agree with you on lifestyle changes, as I have mentioned several times

before. BUT, one size doesn't fit all again. If there is a

pre-disposition to Bipolar, Schizophrenia, endogenous depression, etc.,

then MAYBE lifestyle changes do the trick, BUT maybe it DOESN'T and they

need intervention. I would hate to tell someone who is seriously

depressed that they can help themselves by diet and lifestyle change and

if they could not, then commit suicide. The alternative is medication,

counselling, or whatever it takes to survive.

I think you are one the right track, but would hate for someone to hurt

themselves.

My stepdaughter is bipolar. She is in Arizona and me in California. I

met her just two times and diagnosed her by her actions. Everyone else

thought and some still thinks, she is just a bad seed. Took several

years, prodding and several drs. to formally diagnose her. Her aunt has

Bipolar. Runs in the family.

Earl, diet, exercise, eating right, etc. are so important, but not

always the final answer.

Take care.

I have seen reports of possibly 50,000 suicides from taking of Prozac. This

was in the Lancet.

I have never come across any person who had a deficiency of drugs.

If there is a bi=polar or schizophrenic episode, there is a physiological

reason for that.

The physiological cause is not solved with Paxil or Prozac, nor is autism

" fixed " with Ritalin.

All of these deviations from health have definitive

physiological/biochemical reasons.

Drugs are a cop out. Drugs and surgery are utilized when the reason for the

problem can't be found.

Synthroid or Bio=throid are utilized when " doctors " can't figure out why

thyroids don't function normally.

No, you are totally correct, there is no one shoe for every foot.

But for every health problem there is a biochemical imbalance. When that

imbalance, be it toxicity, auto-immune problems, deficiencies, hormonal

imbalances, distress, endotoxin overload, aspartame, when these are

corrected, the " pathology " resolves itself.

Drugs are a way of keeeping the person quiet so that the incompetence of the

" doctor " is not observed.

Cheers,

Earl
