Guest guest
Hi.... I just wanted to say that I have never had a normal cycle eigher, I was alwayse very heavy flow, with all the goodies too. But since I have been on the depo shot for birthcontrol I have been better. But when the dr changes my meds,(I am still working on getting the right amt of meds. I get uped for a bit then my numbers go back up and I need more.) Anyway when I have my meds changed I can guarentee that two weeks after I up my meds I get a period that lasts for weeks and is so bad that I feel like I am bleeding to death. It is scary. My gyn told me that if it happends again this time he wants to see me. He is worried about anemia as well. I don't know what he intends to do but I thought it would be nice if you knew that you were not alone and if he does something this time I will let you guys know. > > > -------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- >
Guest guest
Be VERY careful about letting yourself bleed out so much that you have anemia. I went that route before deciding to have a hysterectomy. If you are hypo, you are usually borderline anemic anyway, and once you are really anemic it is hard to get back to normal. Anemia really messes up your immune system and you can get very sick. My anemia was so bad I would just be standing there and keel over, which is also a risk because you could get injured. ladylisa_60 <ladylisa_60@...> wrote:Hi.... Guest guest
I don't have any advise re: bleeding related to thyroid, etc., but one suggestion I can make for heavy bleeding in general is the Mirena IUD. Mirena delivers hormones directly to the uterus, so you don't have the higher hormone levels in the blood / body like you do with birth control pills/patches or Depo Provera. (There is a TEENY bit that makes it into the bloodstream, but it's really negligible.) One of the things these hormones do is suppress the accumulation of menstrual tissue in the uterus. Within 6-12 months after insertion, most women have a drastic reduction in menstrual flow, and many women stop bleeding altogether. Mirena is approved in the US for 5 years at this time (although other countries have approved it for use for 7-10 years.) That means that it can be left in for five years, not that it's no longer approved! After I typed that first sentence it occurred to me that it sounded like it's on a 5-year " trial run " ! LOL Mirena is not generally inserted in women who have not had a prior pregnancy, although there are exceptions made. There are other contraindications (such as fibroids) that need to be taken into consideration as well, but generally it is considered to be very safe and effective. In other countries it is actually used as a treatment for heavy bleeding, and in many cases can prevent the need for a hysterectomy. If you're a heavy bleeder and esp. if you have already had one pregnancy, it is worth discussing this with your doctor to prevent the anemia associated with heavy bleeding.
