Guest guest
Hello, My name is . I was diagnosed with hypothyroid about 8 months ago. Am on Levothroid. Somedays I feel fine, somedays I don't think its working. Have one brother, 2 sisters that were hyperthyroid, after surgery and/or the drink, are now hypo. Am not real comfortable with the treatment so far. Would love to treat it more naturally. One sister who does not have problem with thyroid thought maybe taking kelp? Thanks for starting a list. _________________________________________________________

Guest guest
Thank you for the welcome! I'll be happy to tell you where I've come from and where I am now. Five years ago, I was so wasted from fibromyalgia and arthritis' overall pain and inadequate sleep that I could no longer hold a thought in my head. I remember reading the same page over and over, just trying to get it to 'stick'. I'll just list the rest that I can remember: Arthritis, especially hands and hips TMJ Hypothyroid condition Weak wrist Frozen Shoulder Insomnia--neck pain so bad I couldn't lay my head down on the pillow Poor bladder control Chronic nasal back drip PMS Heavy, painful menses Chronic Fatigue Three cancerous breast lumpectomies and two courses of radiation Throat would close off--had to constantly sip water Bruise really easily Uterine fibroids Positive PAP smears Several pre-cancerous uterine episodes ----and had the affected cells frozen off twice Massive gas and digestive problems Itchy skin Allergies to pollen, animal dander, pollution, fumes, feathers, dust, many foods Chronic colon problems--6 months of diarrhea; two colonoscopies Constipation ALL THESE SYMPTOMS DEVELOPED ON A LACTO-VEGETARIAN DIET! THAT CLEARLY WASN'T ENOUGH FOR ME. Constipation coats the intestines so nutrients are poorly absorbed and holds ingested foods so long that they turn to poison which is reabsorbed into the bloodstream. I believe that caused the rest of my problems. Dr. Paavo Airola ['There is a Cure for Arthritis'] found a very strong link between constipation and arthritis. I imagine the same applies to fibromyalgia, candida--maybe all the 'chronics'. How about you?? I'm curious about the link between constipation and other diseases. I'd appreciate hearing. With a letter from my doctor, I applied for Disability. Then I met a guy who was fascinated by my predicament because he had had a life-diminishing body situation, also---and pulled himself out of it by his dietary choices. He read books to me about individuals who had guided his choices. He said he thought I could gain paradise health by gradually shifting to just raw fruits and starchless vegetables, and that he would do the diet with me. At the same time as was going-- " Raw! Raw! Raw! " , an Ayurvedic practitioner was soothingly reading my pulses, and telling me that my constitution wasn't hardy enough to eat raw foods--that I needed cooked food, warmth and sweetness in my life! Which would YOU have been drawn to? , of course! He'd actually HEALed on what he was offering---NObody else was offering anything but temporary relief. So I added raw fruits and vegetables to what I was already eating---and had a massive gas attack! But I held to it, drinking up to a gallon of peppermint tea with maple syrup a day, which did help alot. Then, about two and a half months after starting, my elimination kicked in, the gas passed, [chortle] and my body had made the switch. What I did was to gradually add more organic, non-starchy vegetables, green, leafy salads and fruits to my diet, and ONE BY ONE, eliminate hard-to-digest and clogging-up type foods to which I was accustomed such as all salt, grains, dairy products, meat, fish, tofu. All these foods clog up your system, back up into your circulation and create problems with all the systems of your body. This switch was completed over several months. For the past four and a half years, I have eaten organic fruits and vegetables and NOTHING ELSE. It was 80% raw the first few years; for the past three months and going strong, it's been all raw. Wouldn't recommend doing it faster than feels right! I'd tried all raw out briefly now and then, earlier, but for me, it took until now to feel great, physically, with all raw. I'm weighing in a little light these days, but when my body is cleared of everything it wants to unload, I am confident that I will be at whatever is my optimum weight. I know that it sounds very radical to have no concentrated protein or starch in my diet, but these foods are difficult to digest, are constipating, and will bring your health down if you don't have a strong enough digestive fire to break them down. When your health is compromised, you need to get back to the basics concerning food choices: fresh fruits and starchless vegetables. THESE HAVE THE MOST AVAILABLE, MOST EASILY ASSIMILATABLE PROTEIN ON EARTH! [They also provide the richest nutrition in all other areas as well. So you don't need as much as is usually recommended.] I've come to accept from many knowledgeable sources that cooking proteins and starches renders them nearly impossible to digest--that they sit fermenting and rotting because they can't be moved out quickly enough. Recently, I added flax seed oil to my daily salad for the essential fatty acids. I added flax seed, soaked overnight, to further improve elimination. .. I FEEL THAT ALL FORMS OF CONSTIPATION INCLUDING DIARRHEA ARE THE BASIS OF DISEASE. I might mention that over the years, I had been advised by an herbalist to use several teas; by an acupuncturist, several tinctures, homeopathic remedies and ointments; by a Chinese Medicine practitioner, chicken, Chinese medicines and teas; by M.D.s, an armload of vitamin and mineral supplements. ..Seeing no dent in my ill health, I dumped all forms of supplements when I began to include fruits and vegetables and to eliminate cooked starches and the last vestiges of animal proteins from my diet. My health has made quantum leaps for the better! I'm climbing mountains; can do hefty physical work; dance vigorously several times a week. My concentration is much improved, though 'mind fog' perhaps will be the last vestige of fibromyalgia to go. A daily salad rich in dark greens such as dinosaur (or 'black') kale, sprouts, spinach, arugula, boy choy--with freshly made avocado/lemon juice/scallion/garlic dressing is what I added to my diet which made the most difference of all. I also juice vegetables, orange juice and wheat grass daily. Twice or three times a day, I use reverse-osmosis water that I purify further in the sun to make a quart of lemonade made with juice of one organic lemon and 1 T. organic raw honey. I bone-deep believed that these changes would pull me through! Surely my mindset is powerfully working for me. It certainly kept me going through days when I needed the boost of a home colonic or during an arthritic flare up. Reports from others on this path offer reassurance that flare ups are a sign of healing. Healing looks like the disease, only for a briefer period of time. If you are eating harmful things or are burdening yourself with stress, it may be disease. If nothing harmful is going in, most likely, it is a flare up that will quickly pass. As far as I'm concerned, THIS IS THE CURE FOR FIBROMYALGIA! I have nothing to sell or gain. I'm sharing this because I want to offer what has already been a miracle in my life. I'd be glad to share information sources--books, menus, my personal recipes, etc., if this approach appeals to anyone. This way of life was a joint (pun intended!) effort with my friend, . Having a juicing buddy with whom I prepared meals and bought in bulk was immeasurably supportive. But what it really comes down to is doing it for your own life, in awe of having a body this time around. We're in this together. Have heart! I believe you too can heal! Guest guest
Thanks for the welcome! Fresh news on the 'Recovering from Hypothyroidism' front! : I just had a THS [Thyroid Hormonal Stimulation Or Something To That Effect] blood test, and I tested .4 , when the normal scale is .4 to 5.0!!! In January of last year, I quit taking thyroid [Armour's] for nine months. The THS tested at 75.0 So, since my body was probably being stressed to produce all that stimulation, I went back on Armour's. Around February of this year, THS level tested at 35.0. My understanding is that I will be able, by caring for my self properly [i'm eating only vegetables, with lots of fresh OJ, wheatgrass and a few fruits; working on my emotional/spiritual well-being and getting in lots of vigorous hiking and dancing!] and also taking the minimum doses of thyroid, my thyroid gland may be encouraged to produce normal levels! Have others of us experienced a recovering thyroid gland, already? I'm excited!! Guest guest
Hi Lila (or HaturallyHighJean) I'm glad you're feeling so good. Can I just check a couple of details. Has your TSH reduced while your were OFF or ON the Armour thyroid medication? If you were on the Armour, I would expect your TSH to go down because of the medication. However, if you were not on medication and your TSH went down, please tell us more, for example - where you got the idea of the diet. Also you appear to be able to lead a very energetic life, great! Again is this on or off medication? Have you ever been exhausted and if so what did you do about it. Did taking it easy or taking more exercise help?? I've radically changed my diet over the past six months and eat a lot of raw salad food. To anyone considering a change I would recommend doing it gradually. Any references, name of books would be gratefully received. All the best Anne >I just had a THS [Thyroid Hormonal Stimulation Or Something To That >Effect] blood test, and I tested .4 , when the normal scale is .4 to >5.0!!! >In January of last year, I quit taking thyroid [Armour's] for nine >months. Guest guest
Hello, Anne! The TSH reduced while I was on Armour. Now I'm on a greatly reduced dosage--down from 130mg to 90 mg. When Ive been on 90 for 2 months, I'll test again and see if I can cut that dosage in half--over and over, till it's down to nothing. Even during the 8 or 9 month period while I was taking nothing, I was climbing mountains and dancing hard for hours at a time, a couple times a week! When worry or 'things moving down' keep me awake at night, my energy the next day is nil. As soon as my work is done, I rest. Not at all necessary when I have slept. Arnold Ehret's 'Mucusless Diet Healing System' is the backbone of my eating plan and I highly recommend it. Salad and 'Sauri Rolls' are mainly what I eat. Figure I can't go wrong with dark, leafy greens to clear out a body highly acidized since birth! Wierdly tho, I have been troubled by scant, dehydrated eliminations for several weeks! I believe that is caused by things laid down years ago being stirred up by all the alkaline food and green etc. juices I make. But I can't figure out why it's not moving out fast enough. Guest guest
Hello, I took a break from the list for awhile but I'm back. Still having problems with being hypo but it's getting better. Going on two years now. I have problems getting the correct dosage of medication. I am currently taking Armour and boy does the medicine bottle stink on that one. Six weeks ago my TSH was 30. It has been higher than that but that was while I was on 60mg of Armour. Anyone else out there take Armour? I'd like to know what strength of dose most people take. Now I am on 90mg daily and doing a lot better but started having trouble sleeping so I started taking it at night and now I get up early in the morning ready to go. It seems like it takes awhile to get into my system. Would love to hear some feedback from others. Thanks,

Guest guest
Hi Sabra, I too have had the severe joint aches, but only when I was too low on thyroid. I started taking my Armour at night and now it keeps me up in the day instead of at night. I have never heard of Immunogard and Thyrodine. What is it? On my last bout with hypo, I was taking the 60mg daily and my TSH hit 30. I was having some serious respiratory problems and was extremely tired day and night. Also had joint aches in almost every joint in my body. Within three weeks of taking a higher dose 90mg of Armour, all symtoms have disappeared. Still not as lively as I want to be but maybe in good time. I have tried many other drugs such as Levoxyl, Synthroid, etc. but they gave me the worst headaches. Discovered it was the dye in them that caused it. Also, the joint aches never went away when I was on synthetic thyroid replacement. This is the best I have felt in two years since having radioactive iodine to end my hyperthyroidism. I am confident that I will be well in a matter of weeks if we can ever figure out the proper dosage. Has anyone ever smelled their Armour. Mine smells like something crawled in the jar and died. Pharmacist said that was normal. Would enjoy some feedback. Guest guest
Hello, I am new to the group. I had the radio-active iodine for hyperthyroid almost 7 years ago. It put my TSH at 36 until I could get on enough medication, I had the joint pain so bad it would wake me up out of a deep sleep, I couldn't drive and had to walk on crutches! I was out of work for 4 yrs. because of problems after the treatment. I am now back at work full time and it is still a struggle. I don't know if you ever return to feeling like yourself after this treatment. It takes time to build up the meds to the proper level, but the joint pain totally goes away once balanced. What I am left with is all stomach upset and problems digesting food, IBS. Anytime I change any amount of Thyroid levels my stomach goes nuts. I take Levothyroid, and have tried the other brands, no different. I also keep gaining weight even though my bloodwork is balanced. The Armour made me queasy in the stomach. Anyone else have any problems with their stomach related to the meds? I also take birth control pills, anyone else mix the two? The doctors don't know much, they say if your blood work is balanced you are fine and if you are gaining weight go to weight watchers, and if you have stomach problems go to a stomach doctor. They never admit that the whole hormonal system is all related and if they do they don't know how to deal with it. Any thoughts? Guest guest
Hello, I haven't had any problems with my stomach so much as I have constipation all the time. I take estratest which is a hormone replacement pill. Armour is the best I have taken although I wasn't too sure in the beginning because it took me about 6-8 weeks to adjust to it and I thought I was getting worse. My TSH level has reached 45 in the past but last count was 30. I am sure it is much lower now. I practically have most of my life back. I barely hung on to my job but all is well. Guest guest
Dear Bisque: This is a second message. Once your thyroid has been destroyed its a bit difficult to get it working again. What I have suggested to some folks is: to obtain a magnet [data later] and tape it to the base of your neck for a month. This may cause regeneration of some thyroid cells. Then the Thyrodine may have some active cells to restore. I don't know that this will " work " but it may. It is here that I would like to emphasize to the list that RAI and surgery are mutilations that never are successful. No one ever asks WHY there is under or over thyroid function. These questions are answered on the web site www.thyrodine.com New design magnets may be accessed from Bioflex [use that for checking on net] If you wish more data, please ask me. best wishes, Earl RE: Welcome to hypothyroidismonelist > >From: " Sabra " <sabra100@...> > >Hi I am taking 90 mg of armour aday also.It seems to keep me somewhat ok, >but I'm still over weight and very tired in the day , insomnia at night. >all >my joints ache and mucles cramp.I had all those things pluss heart >pulpitations and panic attachs before I started taking the armour so I am >greatfull for it but would like to get well. Guest guest
Hello list members, I just subscribed to this list today. I have hypothyroidism but cannot seem to get the doctors to acknowledge it. I exhibit all the signs and symptoms but when the simple blood test is done, I'm told my thyroid is " normal. " Years ago it was discovered that the problem I have is the failure of T3 in my body to convert to T4, but the doctors still don't want to do anything to treat it. I keep getting copies of diets shoved at me....... like I couldn't teach a class on diets already!! I look forward to reading and posting on this list. I am taking supplements of zinc and B6, among other things. So at least I'm doing part of it right. I will check out the thyrodine website and pay closer attention this time. Thanks again, Joyce
Guest guest
Dear Joyce and Tres: Blood tests for thyroid function are notoriously inaccurate. And should a doctor decide that there may be a hypothyroid all they have access to are; 1-a synthetic hormone that cannot be the same as your body makes 2-an extract of pig thyroid gland A natural alternative that restores thyroid function can be accessed at www.thyrodine.com The primary reason that T4 does not convert to T3 is due to deficiencies of zinc, B6, selenium, manganese and other nutrients. These are not areas medically trained personnel are familiar with. Most people are quite capable of 'treating' their own thyroid problems and the web site tells you how to do it. best wishes, Earl Re: Welcome to hypothyroidismonelist From: WycheQueen@... Guest guest
Hello . . . I have been a subscriber to this list for a little over a year now, silently reading about others and learning from them. About a year ago my doctor told me I have hypothyroidism, and told me that I would need to be on medication for the rest of my life to treat it. I don't have much to complain about as far as related problems, or much more to report other than the fact that my medication dosage has been bounced from one end of the spectrum to the other to try to help stabilize things; yet things remain unstable. Now, I have recently become increasingly concerned since my husband was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I find this extremely coincidental that he would be diagnosed with the same thing as me. Our family doctor said it is merely coincidence, since it is an auto immune deficiency, and that we aren't doing anything wrong or that would cause the problem. I have found it hard to accept the statements made by my doctors when he says the cause is not known, nor is it of concern. It seems to me that there is something wrong with that . . . but maybe I just don't know enough about it. Well, now that it affects both myself and my husband, I am more motivated to learn more. I would be interested if anyone can offer any thoughts or advice related to the coincidence of both of us being affected by the same condition. lmgw At 02:50 PM 5/4/99 +0000, you wrote: >Hello, > >Welcome to the list. > >Please take a moment to review this message. >
