My mom is no longer going to that doctor. She just saw a different doctor in the

practice yesterday (was listed as a Top Doc).

Her TSH after 8 weeks without thyroid meds was 13 something. Of course, she has

tons of symtpoms.

He said she definitely needs Armour and is doing some more testing of other

hormones. Mom wasn't sure which ones...I have a feeling he's testing some

adrenal hormones again...doing 24 hour urine.

Since Mom is so sensitive to thyroid meds, he's starting her on 30 mgs. and will

increase slowly.

I am thrilled she found this doctor! Hugs, Sheila

She is so sensitive to thyroid meds b/c she needs other hormones like

cortisol, compounded hormones. It is not complicated actually and does not

require tons of tests, some of which won't be accurate. My mother had a 24

hr urine test in the hospital which came out normal--well they didn't give

her cortef, which tells me the test was useless.

It really isn't necessary for your mother to be so sick and not get

treatment. I just got Rx for hormones renewed and thank God the ND didn't

even SUGGEST I get TSH done.

Your mother will never get proper treatment unless the doc knows about

adrenals.

I'm sure you are right, Gracia. Since she's been diagnosed with adrenal

exhaustion in the past, I'm sure there is some adrenal problem going on now.

And while I agree that the tests they're running may turn out to be useless,

what else is she to do? My folks are already making a 2 hour trip just to get to

this specialist.

Your advice for her to see a doc who specializes in adrenals is great, but I

don't think maybe you've forgotten that my folks live in sticks and it's not so

easy to find the kind of doc you're talking about.

I live in the biggest city in Louisville, and my endo is the only doc here I can

find who will RX Armour...and my doc certainly is no expert in adrenals. The one

so called " expert " in adrenals that I went to didn't know beans about adrenals.

I simply can't find the kind of docs you're talking about.

What's my mom supposed to do...drive half way across the country to find the

kind of doc you're talking about? We want to get to the bottom of what's going

on with her, and I think that we are trying our best to do just that.

If you have some suggestions on how I can find the kind of doctor you're talking

about, please let me know. I can't find any Broda docs in the area, and I

can't find any doc who specializes in adrenals.

Oh yeah the living in the sticks thing. It is just so frustrating to see

what people go through, what I went through, it drives me crazy. I needed

a bunch of adrenal hormones and for a while I was getting one hormone every

six months--such a waste of time and my life. When I finally got what I

needed I realized this was not rocket science!!!!! These docs don't have to

be experts in adrenals, they just need a clue! She might find a doc from

http://www.womensinternational.com b/c she needs compounded hormones b/c her

adrenals cannot make hormones. We don't spontaneously recover from adrenal

insufficiency, we get sicker and sicker. My mother's pulse now doesn't rise

above 44, but doc says her tests are " fine " .

hi gracia...your mom only has a 44 pulse??? and according to her doc, she's

" fine? " he's nuts! this doc is testing her hormones. i know the tests can be

worthless, but maybe they'll show something. he's almost positive she has

antibodies...

i have some stuff from women's international...will check it out. thanks a lot.
