Guest guest
Hello everyone - Thanks for the replies to my last post. It was mighty comforting to see them the next day! Hope your health is improving. I've been treating myself with 2 anti-fungals - Nilstat and some herbal tablets containing garlic and other stuff. I am really concerned about my weight gain since the candida came back. Is this something other people have experienced? I was bingeing on foods that aggravated the yeast up until about a week ago, which would have accounted for some of it. My stomach is just so waterlogged and heavy - it's unbelievably bloated and I have to wear a poncho much of the time! It doesn't make any difference if i do a lot of exercise - my weight has stayed the same and I feel awful. I've also been experiencing a lot of anger since i began treatment. i am really irritable, and feel really aggravated by noise, smells and esp tobacco smoke. will this ease at all? At the moment i hardly want to eat at all, as I don't know whether i have allegies, sensitivities etc. it seems i react to everything i put in my mouth. I'm really feeling so upset about it. any advice would be appreciated. I was also wondering if green tea is allowed. thanks for listening -
Guest guest
Dearest Poppy, > Thanks for the replies to my last post. It was mighty comforting to > see them the next day! Hope your health is improving. ==>You are welcome for all our support and help. We're glad you're here. > I've been treating myself with 2 anti-fungals - Nilstat and some > herbal tablets containing garlic and other stuff. ==>You might consider not taking them for a bit and get the diet down pat first. Ensure you are following " all " of the diet before jumping in with antifungals. >>>I am really concerned about my weight gain since the candida came back. Try having more " good " animal meats and coconut oil and low carb veggies (no sugars, no grains of any kind, no processed foods, no snacks). Maybe eat smaller meals more often. > I've also been experiencing a lot of anger since i began treatment. > i am really irritable, and feel really aggravated by noise, smells > and esp tobacco smoke. ==>Emotional flare-ups are common with candida. Your reactions to things, even noise, smells, smoke, etc. will gradually diminish as you progress through the program. > will this ease at all? Start with the basics. > I was also wondering if green tea is allowed. ==>I don't believe you can get green tea that does not contain caffeine. You can find other herbal teas that are caffeine-free however, i.e. camomile, peppermint, pau d'arco is an excellent one for candida, and others. Take good care Poppy. Write and keep in touch eh? Guest guest
Hi Poppy, I was really angry a lot when I first started the Candida restricted diet. I wasn't even taking antifungals but the die off reaction was still just awful. It lasted about three weeks for me and I still felt a bit edgy for several months. But eventually that, along with the other symptoms, gradually went away to where I am positively happy. I can't believe it sometimes. Traditional Eastern medicine says that the liver is where you hold anger and, boy!, I have to think they're right. Our poor livers are so severely taxed during the die-off and taking anti-fungals, while helping to kill Candida, is another hard thing for an over-worked liver to process. I also had quite a lot of " brain fog " during that time. I just couldn't think straight. Do you have those symptoms too? As for the weight gain, I agree with Bee that a healthy body will eventually find its own right weight. That's if you're avoiding sugars, starches and alcohol. Especially avoid sweet drinks of ANY kind because, while they add numerous calories (and extra fat), your body gets none of the sensation of feeling full. That;s another reason why steamed vegetables are so good to fill up on -- so much of their composition is water and fiber and so your body will feel full but won't have consumed so many calories. Soup is also a good diet food. But it sounds to me like your weight gain is simply bloat? In which case I guess it will all go away when the die-off comes under control and you can eventually get rid of the Candida overgrowth. When I was so miserable I had to be careful when I was around others because I didn't want to take it out on them. I tried to get extra rest and do a lot of reading... :-) Good luck -- it is MISERABLE at first. ~Robin
Guest guest
hi poppy ohhh, the weight gain and bloating. you're not alone! i have one of those bodies that fluctuates almost daily depending on what i've been eating/drinking. its really amazing. the bingeing on candida feeding foods is strange, isn't it? we know its not going to be good for us, but sometimes we go right ahead and indulge anyway! i've written about my food experiences here before, as have others. i remember one person describing the 11pm drive to the grocery store to buy donuts, even though s/he knew they were only going to make things worse in the long run. some foods can be truly addictive, like a drug. and then there's the emotional side of eating. i'm a person who munches when i'm nervous or anxious, and i crave the same foods every time, starchy carbohydrate snacks like chips, crackers, etc. when i eat wheat products (pasta, bread, etc), i lose the desire for other foods like protein or vegetables. once i start on bread or pasta, i have to MAKE myself eat something else at the next meal, over-riding my strong cravings for more bread or pasta. many folks, myself included are allergic or sensitive to wheat. did you know that one of the symptoms of wheat allergy/sensitivity is depression?? i have felt it, i don't get severly depressed, but i can notice a downward change in my mood if i have been eating more wheat-y foods. i find that if i can get myself off those foods for a few days in a row, by the third day, as i'm starting to see the bloat and digestive uncomforts diminish, it becomes much easier to WANT to eat the foods that are good for me. by then, even when i get an emotional craving for an unfriendly food, its easier to choose something with protein & fat, and a salad or good bowl of soup and to eat that happily instead. robin gave some really great info about the anger/liver connection! i agree too, i think there's something very real there. i have seen it with a number of people, it can get ugly! detoxing can be really unpleasant, we've all been there in one form or another. do you have a bathtub? how about a nice hot bath... do you like to cook? maybe make a pot of your favorite soup or stew and enjoy the nourishment. do you enjoy the fresh air? you could set aside time to go for a nice hour-long walk (i did that yesterday and it did wonders for me - i didn't feel like doing it until i was actually in my walking shoes and out the door, then it was great!!) remember to use all the resources in the files section located to the left of the screen. there are wonderful articles to give you great ideas and to help keep you motivated. echoing bee's & robins well wishes & advice: hang in there, take it slow and easy, allow yourself extra rest and alone time. you will feel better soon!! take care ~ suz
