I am going out of town for 6 days to a retreat/conference. We will be staying

in dorm rooms which I doubt have a fridge. Meals will be together and probably

be the same as last time................limited protein choices and lost of

carbs. Its not like I can get just a plain chicken breast or burger.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to bring with me so if I can't find

much to eat? I don't want to come back feeling worse.

How about canned tuna or chicken? I can tolerate Macadamia nuts. I can't find

out what the menus are going to be as know one knows yet.

canned proteins are great for dorm style retreats.

i have catered retreats in the past. there is usually at least one

person with a food sensitivity or allergy, or diabetic, who needs

special consideration. i have always allowed those people to use some

of my fridge space for their special foods. at most retreat centers

there is plenty of kitchen/cooler space, so its no big deal. will you

be able to travel with perishables? can you bring a small cooler?

most retreat schedules are designed with breaks or free time. if you

have access to transportation and a store you could supplement foods

as the week goes on.

call the organisers of the event and ask to get the caterer's number,

or the meal service department of the retreat center. call them

directly and explain your situation. ask if you may bring a few items

for the cooler (when i say cooler, i mean " walk-in cooler " that would

be found in the kitchen).

definitely bring canned tuna, chicken, sardines, salmon, etc,

whichever works for you. i always take my own sea salt as well.

if you can get eggs, its handy to hard boil a dozen and keep them in

the cooler as well. i also like to bring a powdered green drink with

me (i like Green Magma - powdered barley grass juice), just in case

you don't find enough dark green vegetables during meal time. its so

easy to stir up a quick glass of green drink for a pick-me-up.

you could make some soaked/crisped nuts if you have the time, for

snacking.
