Doxy and Kidney Pain

Hi Mike,

It's true that many other symptoms can crop up and existing ones can

become worse when starting any antibiotic. 200mg/day of Doxy is a

low dose so I'd be surprised if it could cause kidney damage. But,

you never know.

So, if you or you doctor are concerned about Doxy causing kidney

damage, a simple blood test can be done that tests your BUN and

Creatinine levels. If these two levels, especially Creatinine, are high,

then kidney problems could exist and your doctor would know what

additional tests to run in order to find out if it's damage, an infection,

kidney stones, etc.

Until you get to your doctor, since you've stopped the Doxy, you might

want to increase your fluid intake (especially water).

I wish you the best of luck.

Hi,

I started on 200mg/day of Doxy and my kidneys started to ache. My doctors said

it was toxins leaving the body but I was concerned that the Doxy was doing it.

She said since I was still concerned I should stop taking it until our next

meeting. Could the Doxy have hurt/damaged my kidneys and is there anything I

should do to help them?

Tnx,

Mike
