Guest guest
If you aren't drinking enough water, then the cells tend to hold onto water. This is also why you tend to hold onto water when you have had a lot of salt. The cells think there is not enough fluid to balance things out, and they start retaining. I don't think Red Bull is especially good for people. It is " herbal, " but those herbs are basically ones that are full of caffeine, and that is where the energy comes from. It is cheaper to just buy a cup of coffee. Red Bull also has sugar in it (unless it's the sugar free version) and excess sugar can make you retain water because of the carbohydrate. Every carbohydrate molecule binds to water molecules. You should really only take herbs if you know what they do and you want the effect they will have. carolyneswanson <carolyneswanson@...> wrote: i've been through extensive test for heart problems as doctors were concerned about my water gain, everything's fine. i've been very stressed lately, moving, remodeling an old farm house and selling my old house. tina- you think i need to drink more water? i used to drink 10 glasses a day and now drink 2. i thought that was contributing to my water gain, but now it's worse. also, i've been drinking red bull energy drinks, do you think there's something in there that could make my hold water?? my doctor has upped my meds to .150 synthyroid

Guest guest
I think you should not drown yourself in water, because you can wash out nutrients that way. I was never thirsty until I got thyroid meds. Edema is a symptom of un/poorly treated thyroid. Armour would work better for this. http://www.armourthyroid.com Gracia > i've been through extensive test for heart problems as doctors were > concerned about my water gain, everything's fine. > > i've been very stressed lately, moving, remodeling an old farm house > and selling my old house. > > tina- you think i need to drink more water? i used to drink 10 > glasses a day and now drink 2. i thought that was contributing to > my water gain, but now it's worse. > > also, i've been drinking red bull energy drinks, do you think there's > something in there that could make my hold water?? > > my doctor has upped my meds to .150 synthyroid > > > >
Guest guest
Carbohydrates turn into glycogen in the muscles. Glycogen molecules always bind to two water molecules. Guest guest
Hi! Do those Red Bull energy drinks contain caffeine? If so, caffeine will dehydrate you. So if you already decreased the amount of water you've been drinking, then switched to a caffeine-containing drink, your body will likely need more water. Take care. Guest guest
Hi Lyn! A few ways that have worked for me- (I can go up 7-8 lbs in a day during PMS) 1. No Soda, no alcohol 2. NO salt and nitrate foods 3. Eat a few grapefruits and drink some additional water. I've found it helps to flush my system. Also- I have celiac disease, so my diet is pretty strict anyway. Sometimes when I go out to eat, it never fails that somehow I end up eating something with gluten (grains) and that really can blow me up. I just eat protien, vege, grapefruit and drink lots of water (sometimes I mix lemon juice with my water)- that seems to help. I've also found that the less processed foods I eat the better. Hope you feel better!
Guest guest
Hi Lyn! I hope it helps, fortunately, I don't have the leg problems that some of the others have, but I just can't stand that bloated feeling. I've also heard vinegar is a natural diruetic, but I've tried it and it's really nasty!!!
Guest guest
Hi : Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease where basically you are allergic to gluten (flour, wheat, barley, oats, etc.). A whole bunch of my family members have it- they mostly had diarrhea (chronic), some had really bad eczema type skin problems. I have found out that people with celiac can also have other autoimmune problems (thyroid, fibromyalga, lupus). The docs think my celiac could have caused my thyroid problem. I was first diagnosed Hypo within 6 months of having my son- 6 years ago. It took a long time to find the right doc and meds- I now take armour. My dosage kept creeping up, probably because I wasn't absorbing the Armour because of the celiac. I finally got tested a couple of months ago, I now have been gluten free for about 2 months. I feel much better, but I'd kill for a good piece of toast, or a sandwich (gluten free bread is pretty nasty). I had a TSH test about 6 weeks of a gluten free diet- they finally had to lower my dose. I still need to loose about 50 lbs. Not being able to eat grains makes the low carb diets really easy. It's coming off slowly. The other night we went out for dinner and the next morning I was 6 lbs. heavier. I think I must have unknowingly eaten something I wasn't supposed to! Guest guest
Are there any other symptoms? How soon do you notice less water retention/weight loss after you stop eating the wheat? Guest guest
My guess would be that it should adjust within a week. Could be your sodium/potassium is not good, which could be your adrenals/thyroid. Have you tried taking potassium or liquid trace minerals? Kathy jones2_81 <jones2_81@...> wrote: From everyone's generous advice I have seriously upped my water consumption over the past few days, which hasn't been as easy as I thought it would be. But for me I feel like I'm retaining so much water in my tissues, despite constantly having to go to the bathroom. I can notice it in my stomach, thighs, calves, and was just wondering if this is normal at first, and how long it typically takes for your body to adjust? I've read that bromelain found in pineapple can help combat water retention which is why it's beneficial, but is it necessary, or should I continue and my body will respond soon enough. Celery and pineapple are good natural diuretics. Only you know your state of health so you have to be the best judge. I have cardiomyopathy so water retention is a concern to me. I increased my water intake over about 4 weeks and was fine. Make sure you're getting out and walking etc. You may be increasing the amount of water too rapidly. By the way, many people blame water retention on salt but I don't believe it. I think people retain water because they don't drink enough (my doc told me to stop using salt and lower my water intake right after he told me to go on a low fat diet--I'd be dead if I'd followed that advice.) I use sea salt and use as much as I want.
Guest guest
You should probably try the quick test for edema. I think it's in the Diabetes book. Basically you press your finger into the muscle on the front of the shin. Hold for 5 seconds, then release. If you still feel an indentation where you pressed that's an indication of extracellular water or edema. The longer the indentation persists the more severe the edema. I have 6 oz. of pineapple juice almost every day because I have a tendency toward edema. Most fruits and vegetables are high in potassium which also helps with getting the right sodium/potassium balance. I don't notice an obvious diuretic effect with the pineapple juice, but I have it in the morning so as not to disrupt my sleep. Insomnia has been a big problem for me in the past. Good luck, Cheryl > From everyone's generous advice I have seriously upped my water > consumption over the past few days, which hasn't been as easy as I > thought it would be. Guest guest
Try eating vegetables like asparagus (natural diuretic). Check the internet for more vegetables that might help. Me, I would call the doctor. In many cases water retention indicates something and I would want to know what. My fluid retention indicates my thyroid is out of whack and that my blood pressure is high and that I am dealing with some congestive heart failure as a result of both. I'm interested in keeping tract of what is going on. Guest guest
Just curious...I have been avoiding iodine like the plague but since I had RAI do I really need to? As for my thyroid meds, currently I am going through a slight rebalancing act - less T4, more T3. But this water retention has been going on for about 6 months. Guest guest
I had severe ankle swelling, about 15 pounds extra weight in both legs, and I was off the chart with hyperactivity. Guest guest
Interesting. I've never noticed any problem with those foods, but the only thing I decided to pass on was all soy products. I have major problems when I'm hypo with heart palps depression, and panic, and very similar problems when I'm hyper except when I'm hyper my appetite is insane. I will try to pay more attention to these foods. I also just learned yesterday that I need to watch potassium since I'm on beta blockers. I certainly didn't plan to become knowlegible in this area but it just seems to have to be.
