Hi All, I have never been acutely sick with Lyme; so it is impossible for me to " recover " or go into remission; but RIBb tests show that I still have the disease; so I still take antibiotics (since June, 2000). Guest guest Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 I was wondering the same thing. I finally have a dr. that will treat me 1-2 month course of antibiotics due to " central nervous system " infection (due to Lyme). I have fibromyaliga and myofascial pain syndrome and symptoms started after my diagnosis and treatment of Lyme's. In , " J. Guest guest Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 I have heard lots of reports from people that are well, but most have used alternatives, such as salt/C Protocol, or a program like mine. We always get so much flack from those that are still trying and not having much success, sometimes I don't know why I bother to post. Then I will get an email from someone who says thanks for telling your story, I needed a little hope today and so I continue. Alternatives are welcomed in the Salt/C forum and I have posted there many times but people are only counting on the salt/C and nothing else, just like this forum wants to believe in Antibiotics as the only way. When it comes to things that are not drugs, there are lots of choices, but things like colloidal silver, Hyperbaric chambers, rife machines, etc, etc., are great as an addition to a program that addresses the physical needs of the body, but by themselves fall short. It would be like getting a new paint job, new tires, and new seat covers for a car that had no engine, what's the point. Our cells run our body just like the engine of the car, and in order for it to do well it has to be fed daily, many things, its not coming in the food so how is it suppose to get in us???? Your body is just like your checking account, if you want to keep a balance so that you are not overdrawn, you have to make some deposits. With lyme disease the withdrawls are many, and antibiotics are not considered a deposit to the health of the body so you can see why many are so sick. These are not my opinions, but established facts that have been documented over the years. -- [ ] Re: antibiotics and recovery Maybe as people get well and can function, they tend to need support groups less and drop off time spent here. Guest guest Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 I really don't think this is true--and I'm one who can't take antibiotics, but--I listened to the LIterati With Lyme Video or rather, watched it online last night. Amy Tan is fine now--after 2 years of abx--she went to China, came back with one day of jetlag etc. Jordan is also much better and was on book tour at the time, and Meg Cabot seemed to have had a relatively light case anyway and recovered easily on antibiotics. As I said, I can't tolerate them because of equally bad fungal issues, but I think many many many folks get better on them. You hear from a self-selected group. WHo do you hear on salt/c who is truly better I'm curious? I am monitoring by lurking and trying to figure out what's happening. It seems to be adjunctively good, but most of those folks have already done heavy duty abx so who knows what is left in their system, either. I'm waiting to see at least a handful of reports of folks cured--like Marc, but then again, he did a TON Of stuff beforehand, including abx, ICHT, ozone, rife, you name it. > > I have heard lots of reports from people that are well, but most have used > alternatives, such as salt/C Protocol, or a program like mine. Guest guest Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 Sorry, have to add one more addendum. Hyperbaric chambers don't always fall short. It seems very individual. who posts here sometimes--she and hubby did 3 mos of rocephin, as I recall, and then switched to hyperbaric and are doing really well. A few patients treated in Great Barrington when I was--did really longterm hyperbaric and got much better. One did hyperbaric only (no abx no supplements) for maybe 4 months as I recall, then twice a week for 45 minutes for another YEAR. SHe improved greatly, according to the doc, and has held steady. Guest guest Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 Yes, the Literati With Lyme Video is encouraging. I have often thought (when I was able to think. ha) how Amy Tan, one of the greatest writers of our time, has only been able to publish one book since she got Lyme. It was a selection of short essays. Can you relate to that? It is the way I think. I can't keep track of larger concepts but I can handle small articles, for the most part. I read Meg Cabbot's original blog from, I think, December 2003, where she had just discovered that what had been bothering her was Lyme. The blog was very short. If you read her blogs now you will notice that she can be rather wordy. I think she is one of those cases where it was treated early enough to do some good. Either that or writing " The Princess Diarys " is not as demanding. (I don't mean that, just an attempt at humor. I really respect her. From her writings I think she would be one ex-hoosier I would like to have a conversation with.) If you read some of her journey with recovery in her old blogs you will find that she didn't just take abx. She was taking a bunch of supliments too. Did you know that the woman who wrote " The Ya Ya Sisterhood " also has Lyme? For anyone who is interested you can download the Literati With Lyme video and find links to Cabbot's and other blogs at LymeBlog. jill1313 <jenbooks13@...> wrote: I really don't think this is true--and I'm one who can't take antibiotics, but--I listened to the LIterati With Lyme Video or rather, watched it online last night. Guest guest Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 That is great I am glad to hear many are recovering from lyme with Antibiotics. But what about the after math of being on them for years. It is no different then chemo, works sometimes to kill the cancer but the person is left with no immune system. I have absolutely nothing against using antibiotics I did use them for years. I have since learned that if you are going to work against the body then you better be working with it also. I think because so many are misdiagnosed and given meds for different drugs it is just to hard to say one thing works, one thing does not. The people that get well with 2 years of abx may have been diagnosed quickly and did not develop the many auto immune diseases that can come later after the immune system has been down so long. If someone already has a wrecked thyroid, candida, leaky gut, heart problems, sjogren's, etc, etc, and then after 10 years gets a diagnosis of lyme I think the antibiotics is not going to cure any of the other problems, if they did then they would be the treatment of choice for these diseases but they are not.I would like to hear from the people who took the antibiotics for 2 years did nothing else and see how they are doing in a few year, or even now. -- [ ] Re: antibiotics and recovery Sorry, have to add one more addendum. Guest guest Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 I tend to think that Meg did not get a highly pathogenic strain of lyme, and that those of us who got really sick have, like Wells (ya ya) coinfections and highly pathogenic multiple strains. > I really don't think this is true--and I'm one who can't take > antibiotics, but--I listened to the LIterati With Lyme Video or > rather, watched it online last night. Guest guest Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 -: It is > no different then chemo, works sometimes to kill the cancer but the person > is left with no immune system. " Again, I " m not a fan of drugs, but this is a completely inaccurate statement. It depends on the type of chemo, the person's immune system and how aggressive their cancer is, and in fact, chemo does damage some human cells and antibiotics are not like chemo, some people handle them quite well and the main problem are other superinfections such as fungal, and dysbiosis etc. There is a wide spectrum of responses to drugs, a lot of it depends on your genes, your other infections, your specific p450 substrates in your liver, as to how you metabolize idfferent drugs etc. You write: > " The people that > get well with 2 years of abx may have been diagnosed quickly and did not > develop the many auto immune diseases that can come later after the immune > system has been down so long. " AMy Tan was sick for 4 years undiagnosed (watch the video) and very ill...I think Jordan Fisher went undiagnosed for several years and was almost nonfunctional for a while. Again, it depends on how pathogenic the strains are, if you have multiple coinfections, how many times you were bit, your genetics etc. " I would like to hear from the > people who took the antibiotics for 2 years did nothing else and see how > they are doing in a few year, or even now. " I think what you're saying is you don't believe they got well. As I said, I'm not a fan of abx for myself they're not good, but I do believe many if not most get well on them and handle them pretty well. There's nothing wrong with something helping you, the problem is generalizing as to the reasons it helped you, the reasons other things won't help others, and deriding everything else from hyperbaric to rife to antibiotics as either damaging or only adjunctive and that's just not always the case. Guest guest Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 You misread me through the email, it is not aggression but passion mixed with frustration. If you knew me in person you would not question why I am that way, I have always been passionate about anything I feel is important. For instance I am a horse trainer, riding instructor. I have been teaching and training 17 years, riding my whole life. I have some pretty strong opinions on how horses should be treated and how people should act around them. People will tell you there are many ways to train horses also, but if you ask the horse he'll tell you which way he prefers. I get very frustrated when I have to watch an animal suffer at the hands of someone who thinks they know how to do things, but really don't. I wonder if we asked our body what treatment it preferred, would it chose necessary nutrients, or drugs?? -- [ ] Re: antibiotics and recovery Boy, that is really strident in tone. Guest guest Posted October 15, 2005 Report Posted October 15, 2005 Trumpy, I can tell you that my wife, son and I have all done GREAT on antibiotics using supplements to balance the treatment. My wife and I use Ceftin and my son (16 months) is on Amoxicillan. My wife has been cleared of Lyme from the doctors tests and she has had no symptoms in over 2 months. She was taken off of the abx last week. She is feeling very good now. I have been feeling well for the past 2 months and I just heard from my doctor that I will probably be off of the abx in another 4 weeks, if all goes well. I have been feeling great and my doctor says my tests are showing a dramatic improvement. My son has been on abx since June and he is doing great. No major symptoms and he is bright eyed and full of energy. Be sure to take your abx as prescribed and with food if directed. Always drink a lot of water. That's just good health advice. Water cleanses so much in our body's. My son and wife had minor symptoms, I had major symptoms. But now it seems that we are at the end of our treatments and can finally see the light of been well again! We are under the care of a GREAT LLMD and use a Naturopathic doctor to advise us on the correct supplements to balance the abx treatments. I would recommend getting to the best LLMD you can find and seeing a Naturopathic doctor to round out your treatment. As we all know, everyone of us is different and there are no " cookie cutter " answers for this disease. You must get to the best doctors that you can and let them treat you as an individual. Hold them accountable. You should see some progress every 3 months. If not question them and have them change your treatment until you start to feel better. One treatment does not cure everyone, it takes time and perhaps many different types of treatments. But I feel that we can all recover from this disease. I know because I had it bad and I believe I had it for over 5 years without being diagnosed. Now I feel better then ever. One other thing to remember is to treat this disease holistically. Heal your mind, body and soul. Be sure to find a strong support group (friends and family) and take it slow. When you start to feel better be sure that you don't over do it or you will have a set back. Know that in time you can recover. Be well, > > has anyone in this group actually recovered fully from this disease > and has stopped taking antibiotics? in reading the posts i only see > examples of periods when people feel well and then relapse. any sucess > stories? > Quote

Just cut and paste it. We have a very large readership there and it is a more passive venue where people can gather information, like yours, and make more informed decisions as to treatment. I am currently without treatment my self and, when I am able to go back, I know now what kind of LLMD I am looking for and better how to really whip this thing. I have been fighting it for 14 years, most of the time in the incorrect manner due to incorrect choices and misinformation by me doctors. > Lyme Disease News continually updated from thousands of sources around the net: http://www.topix.net/health/lyme-disease Questions and/or comments can be directed to the list owner at -Owner Quote
Guest guest Posted October 16, 2005 Report Posted October 16, 2005 , This is a very important point you make! Alternative healthcare is an entire thought process, an entire way to focus on one's health. It's not taking one supplement and expecting to be cured from it. Though individual supplements can help with individual symptoms, it's really difficult to find a single supplement that can return an individual to total health. It also takes time! Whether one uses alternatives or western medicine, it is going to take time to get better. Usually by the time most of us are diagnosed, the disease has been attacking the body for quite some time. It's going to take quite some time to undo the damage. I HIGHLY encourage anyone who wants to try an alternative approach to place themselves under the care of an Naturopathic Physician (or other practitioner of your choice). Work WITH that individual to establish a treatment protocol. And stick with it for some time. Each person is different and what works for one person may harm another. Just like with antibiotics, treatment needs to be catered to the individual. Just like with antibiotics, treatment time lines will vary. Whether one uses antibiotics, alternative healthcare or some form of both, it will take time to get better - but people DO get better! =) Robynn PS: A great way to see a Naturopath for low cost is go to one of the Naturopathic Colleges. Though you may be seen by a student, your care would ALWAYS be overseen or reviewed by a trained ND. (Just like low cost MD and DO clinics.) Having your care managed by a trained professional is always better than taking supplements based upon someone's recommendation. Each of us is very different and our physical needs are different. A trained ND is capable of determining which supplements could help and which ones may be a detriment. Maybe one of the following colleges could help! =) Robynn Bastyr University - WA Look under " Healthcare " http://www.bastyr.edu/ National College of Naturopathic Medicine - OR Look under " Clinics " http://www.ncnm.edu The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine - Canada Look under " The Clinic " http://www.ccnm.edu/ Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine - AZ Look under " Medical Center " http://www.scnm.edu/naturopathic_school.html University of Bridgeport College of Naturopathic Medicine - CT Look under " Clinic " http://www.bridgeport.edu/pages/3240.asp Re: [ ] Re: antibiotics and recovery (reply) The reason why people think alternatives don't work is because they think just taking three lac, or just taking colloidal siver, or just taking whatever is going to be the magic bullet. There is no magic bullet, it takes excellent diet, not good but excellent, lots of supplements that cover the bases, rest, exercise, the positive attitude I was talking about, a faith in something and then, and this is where most fall way short, LOTS OF PATIENCE. I have tried to help some people with lyme and after one month of trying supplemnts, they have already quit and are on to something else. It just will never work like that, and they are the ones who will tell you alternatives don't work. Quote
Guest guest Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 Hi Tom, It sounds like you on definitely on the right track. Stick with the program of supplement to support each system of your body and you will succeed. Keep a positive attitude also and believe that the worse is behind you! Great job, -- Re: [ ] antibiotics and recovery I agree - whatever works in the war against Lyme. My LLMD took me off of abx this Tuesday - we're hoping I'm on the other side of this Lyme thing. Just in case, I'm reading the new book 'Healing Lyme' by Harrod Buhner, and taking plenty of notes. According to his research / practice, abx do work for many, but for many, abx do not work, or the relapse rate is significant. This book thoroughly documents which herbs / supplements to use for Lyme, co-infections, and the lingering effects from Lyme (headaches, arthritis, etc.). I'm Quote
