I am curious about this weight issue, also. I mentioned to

my brother (who is in the medical field) that I had just started LDN and he

said I could expect weight gain… It was (not encouraging) news to me…

anyone else? ~

I started LDN 4/17/2003 at 135 lbs

11/2003 I weighed 124

11/2004 I weighed 127

7/2005 I weighed 114

2/2006 I weighed 110

4/26/2006, the day I had my last cigarette, I weighed 108! lowest since high school (1970s)

3 weeks later in 5/2006 I weighed 129

I've been as high as 135 since then, and now range 128-133

Input / Output

When I quit cigarettes, my friends said my food intake went UP, presuming as I got my taste buds back.

When I'm alone, feeding myself, my weight is stable

When relatives visit and eat with them, I go up.

I was 128 10 days ago, have had company staying with me since last Sunday, 3 days ago I was 133 on my scale. I'm 129 right this moment.

Maybe weight gainers need to do a good evaluation

I have started losing weight after years of difficulty. I am also on the

iodine protocol. I feel like my hypothyroidism has finally been adequately

addressed and that's why I'm shedding poundage. I've never heard this come

up before on this list.

,I started LDN two months ago as part of immunotherapy (adjuvant therapy) for melanoma. I went gluten free/dairy free and sugar free (as much as possible) at the same time. I also began walking 3-5 times per week for 30 minutes. I've lost 18 pounds and I am on my way to 40 pounds lower. So, my experience is more than LDN alone; it's much more to maximize my immune system and consequently improve my overall health.BobSent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerryFrom: " Arey" <n.arey@...>Sender: low dose naltrexone Date: Sun, 28 Nov 2010 15:50:36 -0500<low dose naltrexone >Subject: [low dose naltrexone] Re: Weight I am curious about this weight issue, also. I am hoping for weight gain. My daughter is on LDN, she could use a few extra pounds... She has late Lyme and unhealed gluten intolerance

We are on one month of LDN 1mg Hoping our refill arrives today.

Hi

I've been overweight pretty much my whole life. Two years ago I had my hips

replaced. Since then I've lost over 40 pounds, which has brought me down to

'normal' weight levels.

I started LDN almost 4 months ago and actually went down another pound without

trying.

So I can tell you that despite a lifelong history of being overweight, I did not

gain back anything after starting LDN.

Everyone I know has lost weight. My wife lost about 25 pounds over the

first three months. That 25 pounds puts her back at her natrual

weight. She has been at this weight for almost all of her adult life.

To me it related to the now regulated/balanced immune system that LDN

creates. She likes it.

I lost about 10 pounds but could go some more, hope so.

I've lost 30 or 40 lbs as a result of my Lyme disease. Have started LDN. Will

see how the weight goes.

n,

What is the " SCD " ....type of diet?

I have also gained weight since starting LDN but not certain if it's LDN or

hormonal. I've been on LDN for a year. In two weeks I'll be 50 (hard to

believe!) and things have changed in the past 3-4 mos. I'm gaining weight

differently and not losing it as easily as in the past. I don't like it but I'm

dealing with it. I was underweight to begin with so, so far, it's okay. But I

don't want to continue this way. I also have Hashimoto's so that may have

something to do with it.

Specific Carbohydrate Diet. It's designed for people with Ulcerative

Colitis and Crohn's (but many celiacs find it works better than

gluten-free alone; and it is also quite effective for autism).

It basically eliminates starches (no grains of any kind, including rice,

no potatoes or starchy vegetables, like sweet potatoes), and no sugars

(white, brown, molasses, corn syrup, maple syrup)-- except honey and fruit

(without added sugar). You also make your own yogurt, but let it ferment

for a full 24 hours so that the lactose gets eaten up out of it; that puts

needed acidophilus into the gut. I also take S. boulardii, another good

bacteria but NOT anything with any form of bifidus, as it colonizes the

guts of people with UC and Crohn's, and can wreak havoc. Aged cheese is

allowed because the aging again eliminates lactose. (If casein -- milk

PROTEIN rather than milk SUGAR -- is a problem, then obviously a person

can't use milk products at all. I often make my yogut with raw milk, which

makes runnier yogurt but it healthier, and which I can actually drink

straight, as the good stuff in raw milk mitigates lactose intolerance for

a lot of people, I being one of them.

So the SCD involves eating basically meat, fruit and (most) vegetables.

It's high in proteins and fats and generally low in carbs. I feel better

than I've felt in years.

I've found that the SCD and LDN together are a formidable combination, and

I'm at the point where I can (judiciously but relatively frequently) eat

some non-SCD foods. (One of those is sourdough bread -- real sourdough

without added yeast, as the sourdough to a great extent breaks down the

starches in the flour.)

But that's another story, and a treat I allow myself about once a week.)

No. With LDN and better eating habits, I have averaged a loss of 1 pound per

week, which is 50 pounds a year. For 2010, I have lost over 40 pounds, so that

is close enough for me. Having energy to move and a more comfortable life has

made an enormous difference in my life. Before LDN, I had no energy to take

control of my life and health, but all of that is in the past. The future is

open to anything that I want to make of myself. It is up to me now,

I lost weight with LDN. About 35 pounds. I ate less and don't crave sugar as much, except when stress visits. (wink) Then, I eat chocolate.

I lost another 35 pounds after going off Lyrica. That was a REAL blessing!

I started Iodine and gained weight. Figured out that I needed to address an adrenal problem first. So am on that path now.

Additionally, I am now off my thyroid meds completely. I went HYPER with the LDN. So be careful with that and have your blood work checked. Especially if you feel tense.

Best wishes.

Glowing, grace~

i wanted to chime in on the weight issue...some lost weight, some gain....i was 107 when i started LDN, and now, 2 years later, i am 124....its just my view that since LDN helps the body become more balanced, i think that also plays a part in weight..i was a bag of bones and now my weight is right where it should be.
