hi Carol - It seems you are not taking T3 as well? If not you might find

that you need to add t3 to you t4 in the ratio of about 1 to 4 or 1 to 3

to balance your symptoms better. I had excellent results with T4 but my

aches and pains and depression only resolved with adding T3.

Sounds more like you are not getting enough T4, especially since your

symptoms are hypoT not hyperT. If you are not getting a full replacement

dose, then you have partial thyroid function. In that case, your thyroid

output can change, up or down, but more commonly down. That means your

ideal dose is a moving target. You need to pay attention to your

symptoms and keep testing until things stabilize.

no, I'm not taking T3. From reading these emails, T3 is by script only. I

guess I'll have to wait until mid June for this new doc apt. He comes highly

recommended. It took 4 months to get this apt. If I find I don't care for this

doc, like the others....I'm going to start doing this on my own.

I guess I'm a little concerned about the remarks concerning Synthroid....I was

going to switch over the Armour.....like everyone else, I'm just looking for

answers to feel better...I do feel better since I've been on Synthroid, but I

feel there is something still missing in my body. My legs still ache, I still

get cold....the brain fog is still there...I have added more synthroid I started

at 75, I'm up to 125.

If I'm not happy with this new doc, I'm certainly going to try. There are

enough resources at hand to give it a good try. It seems with all the bad docs

out there, I couldn't do any worse. I'm hoping this new one is good. I met a

women who did my wedding invitations. We just starting talking about being

tired....anyway she said she went thru many docs telling her there was nothing

wrong with her.....she found this doc, he took all sorts of tests, listened to

her......end result, she had Hashi and something else....She now works out at a

gym a couple times a week lifting weights.....she has lost all the weight she

had put on......She said the best thing about him, he listened....

My old doc, when I told him I was always cold, told me " Its been a cold

winter " .....what he thought I lived outside???? Needless to say, I haven't gone

back

That kind of sounds like my old doc. I would try to tell him I'm very slow at

everything and he would think I was looking for a compliment, like you do fine

or something.. Being slow , my mind and body is something that is going that's

from the hypo, I just know it is..

Hi Gracia,

T3 was used and abused during the so called 'swinging sixties' in the U.K.

in mainly privately prescibed slimming products; and I have read somewhere

that athletes use it to help build muscle mass.

I quoted some research in a letter of complaint to a local hospital about

their failure to diagnose. In their reply, they did not even acknowledge the

body of research I quoted. As I have said elsewhere in a different post, the

disease has not changed and nor have people that much. It is only the way

docs choose to treat it, throwing out all the pioneering work into the

disease by the likes of Broda Thierry Hertoghe and Ord etc.

I am very angry that the medical profession treats this disease and others

with a 'one size fits all' approach, we are all biochemically different.

Medicine seems to be going backward where hypothyroidism is concerned.

Hi Bev,

You asked about detoxing. For example I began taking Milk Thistle to detox

my liver, as much of your T3 conversion goes on there. You do not become

hypo over night, it takes years. So it seemed logical to me that by fixing a

liver that has probably worked at less than its optimum I would not be

getting the full benefit from my meds if my liver remained clogged.

I knew my liver was in a bad way when my skin started going yellow, I could

no longer metabolise antibiotics and I became alcohol intolerant on a

tablespoon of white wine - BEFORE - diagnosis.

I am trying to find a time when I can do a colon cleanse with a kit I got

from Blessed Herbs.

My next project is I would like to to try Chorella which is a heavy metal

detoxifier, because I have several amalgam fillings in my mouth. Having my

fillings removed would be expensive and potentially hazardous, so its

cheaper to treat what they have and are doing to my body now I have got

them.

I believe in detoxing the large organs in the body either using a specific

kit like the one from Blessed Herbs or some (proven) old wives tales for

getting rid of kidney and gall stones, stuff like that. I do read the

CUREZONE stuff that appears on the end of our posts.

Hi Bev,

The T3 continues to work for me. My trick to find out if I am puffing up

again, is whether my bras feel tight again. If I can make a bridge by

interplacing the fingers on both hands between each other - without having

to press the fingers past my knuckles, then I know I am not continuing to

bloat. Also, If my tongue remains unfrilled around the edge indented with

shape of my teeth, then again I know I am not puffing up again.

T4 alone, I had some stubborn hypo symptoms regardless of the dose, until my

private doc added T3.

Hi Bev,

My symptoms were as described, puffing up and swelling as soon as I ate food

etc. I would feel myself bulk up and my clothes get tight and uncomfortable.

Brain fog was terrible, stopping mid sentence then getting a totally blank

mind.

My tongue and facial swelling, and yellowed skin came about by being

untreated for so long, and over a two month period I rapidly developed the

myxoedema (swelling) in the upper body especially my upper arms, chest and

abdomen, I felt and looked like the Pluto cartoon character, I could not

fasten any coats. Plus I kept collapsing and ending up in the A & E following

dizzy spells, unable to speak or move for several hours. I could not wear

any rings on my fingers, as they got fat like sausages!!

T3 definitely made a difference. I also believe it has helped my depression

too.

Hi Bev,

Sorry, but I'm not set up on my P.C. to send photos unfortunately. I can

tell you something about the yellowed skin though. I went on holiday to

Portugal in the August (before treatment and diagnosis) and the bits of my

skin that were NOT exposed remained yellow against my tan, right up the

December that same year. The colour evened out after two weeks on thyroid

meds that same December. I am black African Caribbean (we DO tan!) and all

my adult life I have had dark pigment in my gums; imagine my surprise that

after two months on thyroid meds, my gums were pink again like I was when I

was a child!

While I was yellow, my skin was waxy in appearance and looked slightly moist

all the time but my face was very cold to the touch.

Very strange!

Bev,

The mental thing was just awful for me, like you I used to cry and think I

was geting dementia or something. I rely upon my memory alot, I do court

welfare work and so give evidence in cases. I have to do mediation between

couples as well. Before treatment I would be able to pick up a case file,

read it, and before meeting the couple, remember their names and their

children's names without looking down at the file.

Once the brain fog started I found that I had to write their names on my

hand inconspicuously. Before, when I did not want to think my brain was

letting me down I referred to the couple's as Mum and Dad. I'd say, 'and

what does Dad think about Mum's proposals for contact?' If I forgot their

name half way through an interview that's what I would do. If I forgot their

children's names I would just try hard to remember if they were male or

female and say, what would your daughter/son think of that Mum? Trying to

think too hard made me physically tired as well.

I still have some brain dead moments but they are fleeting and not the

several minutes of nothing, then suddenly I could get three words out before

the brain went again.

I do crosswords every day as it is a concentrated activity and there are

possibly more than one answer to any question, I think it keeps me a bit

sharper brain wise. Mega doses of B12 have also helped as well.

Hi Val,

I bet that was a real cool experience about your gums... I had the waxy skin

when I had the cushings syndrome, but my skin is oily now with the hypo., face

that is , the rest of my body is quite dry.

Hi Bev,

Once I settled down on my thyroid meds for the first time in my life I had

dry skin on my face, particularly the bridge of the nose and between what is

left of my eyebrows! Six months on, my skin is back to oily again on my face

like it used to be.

My feet and shins were the worst for dryness. I have had cracked heels all

my life but that changed on meds, and they have stayed relatively soft,

thank God. I was always snagging tights and stirring up a snowstorm of dead

skin cells when I took tights off at the end of the day!!
