as a vegetarian, i would obviously say no myself

to dessicated thyroid. but, i've also read a few

things on it, such as the fact that each dose you take

contains different amounts of T3 and T4, which can confuse

your body.

i would definitely read up on all

the options before making a choice.

I started out taking Synthroid when I was

diagnosed and decided after 2.5years to switch to Armour.

For me it was a big mistake. I don't know whether I

wasn't taking a strong enough dose or whether because

each pill is a different amount of T3/T4, that it just

wasn't good for me. I have now switched back to

Synthroid and I also take Cytomel which is T3. It has been

taking me months of trying to get straight from taking

the Armour. I do know that many people take Armour

and do great with it. Ultimately, it's whatever works

best for you.

Good luck,

Tyra

Hi all! You've had some interesting conversations

going on here, in the last few days!

I can

relate to the difficulties of working and coping with

TD. I own & run a small business, and I never seem to

have enough hours in the day to do everything I need

to do!

I'm having really good luck, with the

chiropractor. He's into homeopathic medicine, as well. The

high-protein/low-carb diet he put me on has been working well for me

....I have a lot more energy, and I've lost about 12

pounds!

He says that one of the things I WAS doing right

before was taking Armour. He strongly prefers having his

patients take Armour. Personally, I've had great luck with

it, and would only switch to try Thyrolar. It's

completely a matter of choice!

BTW, Armour has really

gotten a bad rap, and I'd like to correct a few

misconceptions about it. One thing that many " anti-Armour "

doctors like to say is that the strength of Armour varies

from batch-to-batch, just as the quality of thyroid

varies from one pig to the next. This is a silly

argument! Any particular batch of Armour is made from

thousands of dessicated thyroids; they are well-blended to

assure uniform quality. Since the beginning of last

year, there has only been one recall of a batch of (60

mg) Armour, due to its strength ...no other strengths

were affected by that recall. The Levothyroxine drugs

(such as Synthroid and Levoxyl), on the other hand,

have been subject to almost a dozen different recalls

since the beginning of 1998, due to THEIR lack of

consistentcy and quality! So to tout Synthroid's quality while

denigrating Armour's is not only unfair ...it's just plain

WRONG. I automatically question the competency of ANY

doctor who says otherwise!

Heck, I've even heard

the wild rumor that you can catch " mad cow disease "

from taking Armour ...which is RIDICULOUS!

One

of the most difficult things about TD is its utter

lack of predictability. We don't all have the same

symptoms, though we have some of them in common. Some of us

have Primary Hypothyroidism, some of us have Secondary

Hypothyroidism, and yet others have Hashimoto's. A dear friend of

mine cannot properly use the T4 her thyroid produces;

Armour is as useless to her as her own hormones are. The

only thing that DOES seem to help her is Synthroid;

she converts it just fine! My own father, on the

other hand, is quite allergic to the synthetic meds

....he HAS to take natural thyroid hormone, and he's

done just fine on it for the last 35 years or

so.

The longer I'm on this new eating plan, the more I

realize that the diet & exercize mavens are correct

....the herbal supplements, the improved diet, and the

increased exercize ARE helping me to feel

better!

(((Bunches-o-hugs!)))

Hey Everyone,

I just started my first dose of armour thyroid yesterday. I am on a very

,very low dose 15mgs twice a day to start off with but after I took it last

night I felt " weird " just plain strange.. I am not sure if it was related to

the

armour or if it was just little ol lymie ME with all of my strangeness

acting up again . I am just about to take another 15mgs before I turn in and am

just wondering if anyone has had any experiences with Armour Thyroid that

they'd like to share.

Thanks in adavnce,

,NY
