Pam, I know 2 people personally with CFS and one cannot seem to take the .5mg and the other person started too high and now is back down to 1.5mg or thereabouts. I deal with FM and OA and I've been all over the place starting at .5mg in Oct last year, working up to 2.5mg and found that was too high a dose for me and now I'm down to 1.5mg every other day and see how that goes. Some of us just can't tolerate the higher low dose naltrexone. If I can give any advice, go very slowly. Making up your own solution makes it easy to do that. jjoyce

[low dose naltrexone] LDN with thyroid meds and adrenal meds?

My CFS doctor has sent me some 50mg naltrexone and wants me to take 4.5mg daily to see if it will help me. However I also have Hashimotos and quite severe adrenal fatigue so that I have to take T3 meds and also Prednisolone plus a little extra hydrocortisone.Does anybody know if the LDN protocol would cause problems with my thyroid/adrenal med.Have others found that LDN really helps with the fatigue? Thanks Pam

with hashimoto you must start at 1.5 mg and stay there at least 2 weeks.it can be that after sometime on ldn you need less thyroid medication.monitor yourself that you do not become hyper.in case you become hyper, lower your thyroid medication.after 2 weeks that you are stable you can go to 3 .mg and further

I also have Hashi's and take Levothyroxine and Cytomel. I started at 4.5 and had no problems, but it is now recommended that you start at 1.5 and work your way up. I did notice that I got hyper a couple of times, but that was all, just a couple of times. It is also recommended that you don't take more than 10 mg of Pred with LDN. Usually, you can take any drug except one that is a narcotic.

My doc started me on 3 mg and I am still on it. He does periodic tests to monitor my thyroid, which is hypo.

I have been on LDN for 6 1/2 months and I have had no issues with my thyroid.

Pam, I started at 1.5mg/day as is recommended for Hashi's folks. The reason

is that in case the person's thyroid function kicks back in, you want to be

at a low dose in order to control for what would be hypErthyroid symptoms

(heart racing, etc.). The correct response if one has hypEr symptoms is to

lower the thyroid hormone dose.

If the person is fine with 1.5mg for 2 weeks, can bring it up to 3.0mg, and

then 2 weeks later 4.5mg. That's what I did with absolutely no

problems. Unfortunately, my thyroid function didn't kick back in. The

literature says that the longer a person has had dysfunctional thyroid the

less likely return of function will be, and I've had it for more than 20

years, with it untreated for 10 or more years.

So it's wonderful that your doc has prescribed LDN, but he/she seems to be

unaware of the LDN protocol for Hashi's folks. You need to start at

1.5mg. Most people are just fine with that amount. A very few can't

tolerate it and go lower, but most can.

LDN definitely helped with my fatigue, it brightened me up immediately. I

am also on the iodine protocol, which has also increased my energy. You

might want to check out the list called Iodine on , and check out the

owner of that group's website, www.naturalthyroidchoices.com There's a

short list of companion nutrients you have to make sure you're also taking,

and some other vital information. But iodine is absolutely essential to

not only thryoid but every aspect of health, and virtually everyone is

deficient in it. Western medical training teaches doctors to be afraid of

iodine, but there's a lot of research available that you could share with

your doctor. Dr Brownstein's book on Iodine is a very good place to

start. https://www.drbrownstein.com/bookstore_Iodine.php

with best wishes,
