There is a study on this but it doesnt implicate garlic in any potential effect

on treatment.

In the study one garlic capsule was administered twice a day and very careful

pharmacokinetics studies were performed. The results were dramatic: garlic

reduces the levels of saquinavir by 50%. No data was presented about other

antiretrovirals, but this study questions the use of these supplements

concomitantly with protease inhibitors. The therapeutic implications of this are

unknown.

Saquinavir is used almost exclusively in combination with ritonavir, but no data

was presented about the three-way interaction. It might be that ritonavir

" compensates " for the effects of garlic.

It is possible that these interactions will occur when you take an overdose of

" pills " with such supplements. Natural garlic when taken in food should not

cause any problem.

Dr Sharat Misra MD,DM,FACG

Although I am a strong proponent of complimentary

medicines, I do have to say that I just read an

article where it was shown that consumption of garlic

decreased the levels in the body of some of the anti

virals used in the treatment of HIV, and they were

saying it might be a concern, since garlic is used by

some HIV patients to control cholesterol, which tends

to rise when one has AIDS. It didn't say efficacy was

reduced, but levels were lowered which may result in

diminished effectiveness. So even garlic may have

some circumstances where it isn't harmless.

I just realized i am having a very bad die-off from me taking garlic, i took

the pills for almost 2 months & have not been feeling good at all (tired,

sweating, chilling, profusely, sleepy) than about 2 weeks ago i got a very

sore throat & was patient thinking it would go away in which it did (with the

help of other herbs) than this week my head was stopped up and i had a lot of

mucus, i went to the Dr's & she couldn't see anything wrong but gave me a

Z-pak, i did not fill it but today i fixed my a BIG cup of Pau-d-arco and

another de=-tox tea & in 2 hrs i felt much better, so i will take the tea a

couple of times daily and maybe in another week start the garlic again. i've

had die-offs before but not like this one! it was and is a dusey! Mog

If you have not also been supplementing with acidophilus, then it it probably

not just die off, but lack of good bowel bacteria. Garlic is a potent

antibiotic and will kill intestinal bacteria and you can feel pretty bad when

those levels sink.

Peace & Blessings,

Yes I ingest large quantities of garlic and it has helped greatly. The thing is

that you have to eat the garlic raw. Cooking the garlic with food is ok except

that the properties that make it anti-fungal, anti-viral & anti-bacterial are

ruined by the cooking process. In order to benefit as much as you can from it

you should eat the garlic raw. Also, I have heard that the active ingredient

that makes garlic so potent and medicinal is also the part that has the odor. So

taking the deoderized pills may not give you the same benefits of let's say the

pills with odor.

I usually ingest 2-3 Super Garlic gel capsuls every night before I go to bed. If

I take it just before I fall asleep they have had time to pass thru my system

during the night and when I wake up in the morning I don't smell like garlic.

And any residue smell left over can easily be fixed with brushing my teeth and a

good morning shower.

That sounds really good. I usually just chop the garlic up in small pieces and

then swallow it whole. Or I put whole garlic cloves in pure water and drink the

garlic water after it's had time to " steep " for a while. But I do not boil the

water.

I don't know if garlic is a carb, but I do know that when I got the results of

my candida test from Great Smokies, garlic was down as the natural way of

treating it, and I was a 4+, so I had it very bad at that time.

Garlic, as all vegetable matter, has carbs to it but it has tremendous anti

fungal properties and is recommended on almost all candida plans I have

Here is the carbohydrate and caloric information for garlic.

A clove of garlic contains 4 calories and 1g carbohydrate. One teaspoon of

crushed garlic contains 10 calories and 1g carbohydrate.

first

dr zhang prescribes HIS garlic capsules as his first recommendation

against lyme bacteria.

these are high allicin and enteric coated.

if you want to use raw garlic directly, you need to crush and mince

the garlic and

let it sit in a clump for 5 minutes so that it develops its allicin content.

studies on its bacteriacidal action in the body use at least 5 cloves a day.

allicin comes from a reaction as the cell walls are crushed.

a whole or cooked clove does not have this property.

some people say the stomach inactivates allicin regardless.

hence the enteric coating of zhang product.

if the garlic is working you WILL have the typical odor. this is

unavoidable.

I have tried Olive leaf extract and Grapefruit seed extract in addition to

garlic as natural antibiotics.

<<<<<<Everyone talks about abx a lot with less emphasis on natural remedies

in here--that's my impression at least>>>>>>>

I think from time to time we discuss all sorts of treatments both

alternative and traditional......everything from antibiotics, to massage, to

chiropractic, to acupuncture, to oxygen therapy, to light boxes, to rife

machines, to colonics, to stun guns, to saunas, to hot tubs, to vitamins

and minerals, to herbs, to homeopathic, to aroma therapy, meditation, yoga,

I even remember a discussion about actually drinking your own

urine.......I'm sure there are many others.

I even tried hydrogen peroxide drips.......along with many of the above I

just mentioned.

We all have to try many things, and find out what helps us the best. I

really don't feel there is one way and only one way..........if there was,

Think how quickly that would make the news.

We need to try a variety of things, until we find the right combination to

put us into remission.........

; just to let you know even if you dont chew the garlic your body may

have a very strong odor for the next 24 hours. I tried to get away with this

where I work noticed the smell even from a couple feet away. But if its

Dear Jeannine, I have been taking fairly high doses of garlic now for about,

well not about, but since May 1, 2003. I took 900 mg of a brand called

puregard the first day and went to 1500 the next day, then to 1620 and

changed the brand to KYOLIC. on the night of 5/3 I experienced quite a HERX

when I lay down to go to bed so I have stayed on 1620 up until yesterday when

I boosted it up to 1720 MG. I have noticed quite a difference since taking

this amount of garlic and plan to gradually increase the amount as time goes

by.

I have been using a RIFE like device since August 9, 2002, for 5 to 6 hours

each day.

When I first started using the device I felt very well until about January

7th of this year. At that time I started to feel faint and have to lay down

or pass out. I then started running the frequencies for 10 to 20 minutes and

started to have severe burning and itching all over my body. This all went

away after about two weeks, however, it seems that the Lyme bacteria went

deep inside my body to get away from the Rife frequencies. The GARLIC has

sure stirred up the bacteria and I now get pretty strong HERX conditions when

I run the EMEM3D Rife TYPE MACHINE.

I have NO MEDICAL TRAINING, NOR HAVE I EVER CONSULTED ANYONE ABOUT GARLIC!

I do take a lot of vitamins and minerals since I became infected with Lyme in

mid 1994.

If anyone knows how much Garlic DR Zhang recommends I would be very

interested. Based on my recent experiment I believe the KYOLIC garlic is

probably as good as any other. I would hate to get much of a Herx any

stronger than I have already received.

Beside the point, but of possible interest, I took a parasite killer about a

month ago and got the biggest HERX I have ever experienced. It was something

I had heard about back in February of last year but had not tried. It

consists of BLACK WALNUT GREEN HULL TINCTURE, CLOVES, AND WORMWOOD. They

RECOMMEND YOU START OFF WITH ONE DROP OF THE TINCTURE FOUR TIMES A DAY AND

THEN TWO DROPS FOUR TIMES A DAY UP UNTIL 20 DAYS. I GAVE THE DROPPER A

LITTLE SQUEEZE AND QUITE A BIT CAME OUT. THE NEXT MORNING I GOT OUT OF BED

AND HAD A BIG HERX. MY BLOOD PRESSURE WENT DOWN VERY LOW AND MY PULSE WENT

TO 32 AND STAYED THERE FOR 8 HOURS. I WAS AFRAID TO GO TO A HOSPITAL SINCE I

KNEW NO ONE THERE WOULD KNOW ABOUT LYME. I RECOVERED OK JUST ALL OF A

SUDDEN, BUT HAVE BEEN AFRAID TO GO BACK ON THE TINCTURE AND DECIDED TO TRY

THE GARLIC.

I have been on Doxy and Ceftin for a very long time except I went off all

medication from August 8, 2002, until January 8, 2003, just using the Rife

like device.

Lyme is an adventure and if the HERX doesn't kill you the Lyme will. Well, I

don't men to sound pessimestic and believe that one day I will be cured. I

am sure trying. I certainly wish all Lymies a cure and as little distress as

possible. All my prayers and best wishes for everyone, especially those with

Lyme and Lyme children.

Maybe I wasn't clear when I talked about garlic before. Let me try

again. Eating anything with garlic causes me severe heartburn /

indigestion. I've been taking the odorless softgels for years [ with no

problems ] The reason I take them is because I've read about the many

health benefits from doing so. D

I'm the same way. I can't handle most things with onion or garlic in

them. Some supplements are okay, but I've got to be careful. Raw

onions and garlic are the worst! I also get headaches and a spaced-

out feeling if I have too much, on top of the indigestion (which will

usually last all night, sometimes into the next morning). I'm on a

group for those who are onion allergic, almost all have the same

sensitivity to garlic. Some of them even faint if they have them.

Here's the url for the group: onionfree/

Sue,

More of the allicin might be preserved if you pressed the garlic JUST before

using it, not all of it in the morning to use all day.

I use raw garlic too (but like many things it gives me the runs!). I

sometimes mix it up with blended whole lemon (rind and all) + herbs and salt

and pepper and I use it in salads or just on rice cakes (It's nice on bread

but I don't eat bread).

Hi Upstate Sue,

The garlic analysis was before Allimax, I would guess. It really is a

unique, patented, breakthrough and that's the only reason I recommend it.

It delivers literally a hundred times what you could get from raw garlic

and without the aftertaste.

I must say the spending priorities on this group I find a bit odd.

Obviously, some are just broke and I understand that, but the lengths that

many will go to to try to avoid a recommendation amaze me. The classic was

Jim's heaters, where they would do any amount of work to cobble something

up rather than buy the ones he was selling. I made a mental note not to

try selling this group anything -- I don't even recommend a supplier :~))

By the way, rereading my post, I see that my concise prose looks a lot

like publicity blurb but it isn't. I write all my own stuff and I tell it

like it is.

Hi Rob,

You wrote about garlic. A few years ago I read a meta-analysis of garlic

studies that concluded that fresh, raw garlic fulfilled the claims made

for

garlic. But they couldn't find proof that cooked garlic, garlic

capsules,

etc., helped with anything. (By this time there might be better studies.)

All I'll say, , is that Allimax is 100% pure allicin, the active

ingredient, in a patented form that allows it to survive the GI tract and

be absorbed. I just don't see how you can get more potent than that.

Hey Rob, have you compared Allimax to Zhang's? I would like to try the

most

powerful and cost effective. I know Zhang's is powerful but am not a

garlic

expert and only go by another who researched it and used it and herxed on

it

and got a lot better on it. I'd be open to using either one.

Bill,

It is my understanding that the Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract (used in

numerous scientific studies, the results from a heart study was

released last year) is one of the most effective.

The above is from a search and has a tremendous number of uses for

Hi, Jay:

Oh, about garlic, I certainly agree with you. That's some great stuff! Even

now it's being tested and is said that it may fight cancer of the bowel along

with some other cancers. Many doctors already know it's good in fighting

certain kinds of food poisoning.

The smell also doesn't bother me at all. Usually I have my husband eating

the extra garlic, so we both smell the same and don't notice it. My daughter

(now 21) is the only one that used to complain about me stinking, but then

that's a 21 year old for you! I used to put several cloves in my fresh veggie

juice. Now I press it, then put extra over my salad or in some food.
