Jay, low testosterone is just one possibility when a person has fatigue. Its not the only possible cause. Many people have found their steroid hormones very low after taking cholesterol lowering drugs, so folks like us bring it up as as a suggestion. I think you are correct there is no right answer. This statin induced fatigue thing is a relatively new monster created in the last 20 years. All of us who have permanent residual fatigue after cholesterol lower drugs would love to have a solid answer and a solid treatment for resolution. Unfortunately that does not exist yet. Still many unknowns. So folks like this group come together, give each other support. Share their stories, what seems to help, etc.

So, you have to understand my reticense about checking and double-checking all these tests. This list is a valuable font of information, but we all have to be careful about doubting everything. I do get cautious when I am told all the work I have done to research my excessive sleeping is wrong and that it's all about 'testosterone, chronic fatige, etc.'" I feel defensive when posts tell me I am not correct. I had the tests done, I have done all I can. I am seeing everyone has an opinion and there is no right answer.

Testosterone is produced from cholesterol, so it makes sense. Same thing happened to me.

Jay:

Please have your testosterone level checked. It is well known that statins interfere with the body's hormone production processes, especially testosterone. Thanks so much, Bobby.

Sorry, all, I didn't mean to sound so glum. I realize the internet makes so many new experts, and some are truly aware and others use info to their advantage for wishful thinking. I do appreciate the expertise I have gained from this list. I was just feeling overwhelmed, I am battling an ear infection and it's been a corker lately. It's hard to know how I feel being off Lipitor for 16 days now, because the ear infection is cutting me down so much. I have a tube in my right ear due to chronic ear infections of the middle ear. The eardrum started to bleed last week and then the whole ear got inflamed. I am on a topical antibiotic (drops). You don't suppose the platelet issue of the 2nd week of Lipitor was the cause, do you?

I am curious now about the testosterone issue again, will call the doctor's assistant to get a copy of the report I had done last year.

But first, I need to overcome this ear infection, which is laying me very low, so I can see how my sleep issue is coming along. I see the pulmonologist next week!

Jay,I only mentioned the testosterone issue as you did not mention having your testosterone level checked, which is done through a simple blood test. Also, you did not mention you had come to any conclusion about the cause of your condition, which is why I mentioned my experience in the hope it could be of some help to you. That statins reduce testosterone levels is an established fact. The reason why it does so is not fully understood. It may be due to the fact the body needs cholesterol to manufacture testosterone and that low cholesterol levels automatically reduce testosterone production. Apparently, some researchers also think statins may interfere with the signaling process between the thyroid, which regulates testosterone production, and the testicles. The effects of low testosterone levels are also well known, and do include chronic fatigue and excessive sleep.Good luck,Dave. thanks, , points well taken! I am going to check with my doctor's office and get the results sent back to me. It doesn't hurt to doublecheck.

Jay:As Bobby points out the body has to operate in a balanced state or there are problems. There is only one way to determine if your body is in an optimal state and that is lab work. The following list will get you started and will give your GP a minor coronary when he sees the list, but if you don’t know where you stand then troubleshooting is impossible.TSHFree T3 and T4CRP HSTestosteroneCordisolVATHomocysteineVit  D3 25 OHVit B12There are certainly more but this will give you some basic information and a basis from which you can track you improvements as you address deficencies.Mike From: Lipitor [mailto:Lipitor ] On Behalf Of Jay SelbergSent: Monday, October 10, 2011 8:40 AMLipitor Subject: Re: fatigue Thanks so much, Bobby.
