Guest guest
Robin, I did buy one of those 50 at-a-time capsule makers from ichinese. Agreed, it's a pain, but I also make two-tone capsules. 3 parts milk thistle and 1 part dandelion - and thanks for reminding me - I'm overdue and out! _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of listspub Sent: Sunday, March 21, 2010 12:02 PM Subject: [ ] Knotweed/Re: Buhner list From the new article: www.healingspiritsherbfarm.com Has knotweed in bulk. I found the old bottle of tablets I had and began to have diarrhea from.. yes, Source Naturals. So I am going to continue with the bulk herb. It does mix well with green smoothies and oatmeal and is cheaper in the long run. Encapsulating is a pain... if someone has a helpful hint for that (I am scooping capsules in the herb) let me know! Thanks! Robin > > > > > > > > > > > Has anyone experienced diahrrea with Knotweed/resveratrol? I am introducing herbs one week at a time.. My body loves Cat's Claw and is tolerating the Andrographis very well - but have had the runs twice when bringing Knotweed on board.... Thanks J > > > > > > this is relatively common with some of the knotweed pills (e.g. one of the Source Naturals versions). The pills have binders that can cause this problem. I few people have reported some gut problems from knotweed bulk powder, but most tolerate this herb very well. > > >
Guest guest
> Any tips for packing when scooping? I am not able to fill an entire capsule well. I have lots of experience filling capsules lol. Maybe I can give you a few helpful tips. There is an accessory you can buy for the capsule maker. It is called a tamper. I never bought one but have seen them on the internet. If someone has one or decides to buy one I would be interested to know if they actually work. The first time I used the capsule maker I realized I would need to squish the powder into the capsule somehow. I looked around the house and found a package of smaller paintbrushes that I had just bought from the dollar store. The handles looked pretty close to the size of the capsules. I went thru the package of paintbrushes until I found one that was just a touch smaller than the capsule lol. (How do you say redneck lol?) When I make capsules in the capsule maker I only make 25 caps at a time so that I can pack both sides of the capsule. You will need a clean flat surface to work on like the kitchen table. Set up the capsule maker at the higher level (with the 2 plastic tabs pointing in) and insert the 25 cap bottoms (bigger halves) into the cap maker holes on one half of the maker. Pour a very generous amount of powder onto the maker. Use that little plastic card (that comes with the capsule maker) to move the powder around and fill the caps. Now you will need that paintbrush or tamper of some sort lol. Using the handle side tamp down the powder, scooping more powder into each cap until it's full. Once the 25 bottoms are all packed and full, gently turn the maker on its side to empty out all the excess powder. This is the part where you end up with a pile of powder on your table. Use that plastic card to slide the powder into a little pile. Set the cap maker back on the table and carefully turn the two plastic tabs sideways so that the maker drops to the lower setting (hope this makes sense). The important thing now is not to overfill the lids cuz if you do you won't be able to close the capsules. Insert the empy lids into the 25 empty slots and fill them using the plastic card to scoop and move the powder around. Take all the excess powder off the lid side and tamp down the remaining powder into the lids. After you tamp down the lids once, fill the lids again once more by pushing the powder around with the card. Gently separate the maker components and join the bottoms with the tops and you should have well packed capsules. Take Care, Chris
