What have people used to repair their adrenals? Are people taking

prescriptions thru a Dr., or is there anything natural to take?

Has anyone used this for adrenals?

I have adrenal issues, and I have this written down in my notes to try.

Haven't gotten around to it, I guess partially because it is unfamiliar to

me.

did not have ear issues with adrenal issues, so cannot comment on that.

I do know (at least with me) takes a LONG time to repair the adrenals.

I had a case of exhausted adrenals about 3 months ago, and it has taken

this long for me to start to feel normal.

In my view, most important is to prevent adrenal issues.

There are many ways to rebuild the adrenals:

learning to balance the parasympathetic nervous system with the sympathetic

nervous system seems to be an important priority.

This includes a lot of rest, meditation, deep relaxation. Minimizing stress as

much as possible.

I'm surprised sometimes when i hear people say that watching t.v. or being on a

computer consititutes rest.....it really doesn't when it comes to deeply

stopping the mind and body and finding nourishment from within.

There's nothing wrong with doing things that are fun, and each of us has our

ways of doing that, but i would not confuse " fun " with the deep rest that is

needed to recharge the adrenals.

Some of the things i find helpful are: (sorry dear vegan friends) eating small

amounts of animal protein throughout the day (yes, i miss being a vegan, yet

realized it wasn't working for this body).....

eating very nutrient-rich foods, small amounts frequently.

Putting my feet on the earth, spending time in quiet and in nature.

Rhodiola Rosea

Eleuthero tincture

Ashwagandha (if it tests positive....i find muscle testing helpful to discern

this)

and some of the nutrients that others have mentioned in various supplement

combinations.

Then there are other herbs that help to calm and support the nervous system,

such as skullcap, oatseed or oat straw, licorice root for some people, nettles,

wood betony, blue vervain. The list goes on.

Then there are more subtle levels of paying attention. Really listening to what

is it that nourishes (on any level) and what is it that is draining?

I find that saying " yes " to aliveness and well being often means saying " no " to

things that don't feel calming and supportive.

Quiet and rest seem to be the most nourishing for this body recently.

Peace, ease.....and deep rest....

Good comment-

for me also, unfortunately, I find eating small amounts of chicken seems to be

good for my body.

I was never a vegetarian, but I have been eating less and less animal foods as

the years go by. However, I have been eating more chicken. Yesterday I bought

some sliced chicken at the supermarket and was looking right into the rotisserie

where headless bodies of chickens were turning.

It was gross, but it reminded me that what I am eating were once live animals,

and that is as it should be.

I'm sure rest is essential which I find impossible to get.

I was doing yoga every morning, but when I added a set for the adrenals to the

basic set I was doing it was too much, and that is when my adrenals crashed.

Well we do our yoga early in the morning before breakfast, and that was my

mistake. I cannot exercise before breakfast. I feel sad about this, as I loved

getting up and doing yoga at 3 or 4 am.

So now, I have to find the desire and discipline, the motivation to do yoga at

another time of day.

thanks,

Hi ,

In addition to what others have said - I would say Holy Basil-

It is an adaptogen and supposed to be good for generally lowering stress level,

which is essential to healing the adrenals.

I find it helpful to eat small meals often, and high-protein.

Also there is a book which might be useful, It is called

Feeling Fat, Fuzzy, or Frazzled?: A 3-Step Program to: Restore Thyroid, Adrenal,

and Reproductive Balance, Beat Hormone Havoc, and Feel Better Fast! by

Shames and Karilee Shames.

I found it very useful. It helped me diagnose myself. There are a lot of

resources on there - such as getting tested for adrenal function, and you can

talk to the authors (doctors) (for a charge of course).

I highly recommend it.

The authors think that hormonal inmbalances are responsible for many of the ills

that cause people to feel tired and out of sorts, and they say that most doctors

do not know about it, and so it is under-diagnosed.

If I recall correctly, they do promote natural remedies, ie vitamins and such,

but are not adverse to medications.

There is also a good website, which I cannot find, will post when I do.

best,

Is it possible to get off compounded hormones if you're post menopausal?

My LLMD put me on bioidentical hormones as part of his overall holistic

approach. I was on them for six months or more and then started working with an

ND who wanted to retest. My results were sky high. I didn't feel any different

on or off them so went on and have not gone back on.

My primary is a D.O.who practices integrative medicine and is open to

alternative treatments. She regularly do blood and saliva labs for testing my

hormones. I had a followup appointment yesterday and for the first time my T3/T4

levels are good. My vit.D is 49.5 which is close to where my doc wants it. My

adrenals were slightly low, so she put me on one capsule of adapten-all once a

day. My magnesium level was good.

I did a spectra cell test last year that showed a few nutritional deficiencies.

Go to: www.spectracell.com for info on this test. Most insurances and medicare

will cover it.

I was having slight spotting (postmenopause), but that has stopped since

lowering the dose of my topical BHRT. I still get hot flashes and night sweats.

All my recent labs have come back with good readings, except CD57 was 0.

However, my LLMD said because I was feeling so good that was an obvious

misreading. My VGEF was good. CBC was excellent. I am still experiencing

body/feet/palms aches/ burning and occassional brain fog and pressure in head

and face. I still can't determine a herx from a lyme and co symptom. I don't

care so much about that. i just want to be healthy and symptom free. That's my

goal.

I would also like to not be dependent on BHRT if possible. I know many women who

go through menopause and eventually get over the hot flashes without hormones. I

would love to get off all prescriptions. I still have to take meds to stay

asleep.

I know I am blessed that I'm not as sick as many with lyme. I've been reading

about different strains that determine the severity of symptoms and treatment. I

think this was in the recent issue of, Public Health Alert online magazine.

I wish you all progress toward reclaiming your health in this New Year. Thank

you for your support.

Vicki,

re: " I know many women who go through menopause and eventually get over the hot

flashes without hormones. "

I had the worst hot flashes and sweating with menopause.

I'd open the window in the middle of the window, and next minute I'd have the

heat on and be under a blanket with the chills.

I'd tell myself just wait, cuz the flas would soon turn into a chill, but the

changes in temperature were so intense I was always opening and closing windows.

And it surprised me bec. I had gone thru my many menstrals over the years with

little discomfort. So I had expected to sail thru menopause. As some women do.

I didn't entertain taking hormones bec. some of the hormones come with increased

risk of various cancers, as well as stroke and heart disease.

I tried many many herbs to no avail.

Finally, what worked for me was when I read that in Japanese they have no word

for hot flashes.

So - even tho I know there are problems with eating too much soy, I started

eating soy products instead of chicken.

(Unless organic, chickens have hormones, so perhaps that was affecting me.)

Finally my hot flashes and drenching sweats went away.

I also found that drinking coffee increased the hot flashes, but I was never

able to totally give that up.

good luck to you in finding something that works.
