I have a few questions about whether anyone here has experienced this or not. When I go to my drs appts...my blood pressure (which has always been low) tends to get high. Then I will go home and take it and it is low again. This past week, my bp was 155 over 90 and they took it before I left and it was 144 over 80. When I got home, it read at 126 over 70. My bp is usually way lower than that. I think it is the anxiety of going to the drs. Anyone have any suggestions on how they deal with that? I can feel myself getting nervous as soon as my name is called and I know it is a normal predicament but this has just started to happen. Any ideas? Meditation...know it could be meds also. I am on prednisone 5 mg, arava 10 mg. Soon to start enbrel self mix. Then onto rituxan if that does not help me. I know that there is a 24 hr bp monitor also. Thanks all..... a

When I hear my name, I start stressing about it, and I know that just makes the problem worse! My blood pressure is usually pretty high when the nurse first checks it. My doc will usually take it again--usually in the middle of talking about something else, so I don't have a chance to worry. I've also noticed this happening when I take my blood pressure with one of those machines at our local drug store. The machine will report a fairly high number. If I take my pressure again right away, it's usually well within the normal range. Unfortunately, I don't have any suggestions to help with the problem. dordale
Guest guest
This is so common. Let them know about this and that this happens for you. I'd keep a log of what your bp normally runs and bring it with you. Abby In a message dated 8/24/2006 11:59:38 A.M. Pacific Standard Time, pdelarosa@... writes: Hi there.... Guest guest
When you go to the doctor office, have them use a bigger BP cuff, this will show a lower BP. they may be using the wrong size for your arm. Guest guest
Hi a, Funnily enough I get this as well! Everytime I go to see my GP, neurologist, psychiatrist or mental health nurse I get so nervous beforehand! I can feel my heart racing and I get all sweaty. I'm sweating now just at the thought of it! However, usually once I'm actually in there with them I start to calm down a bit. I suppose its the anxiety of thinking I wonder what they're going to say to me or what news they've got for me! I don't know what happens to my blood pressure though.
