Guest guest
Sure , your Dr is most likely feeling for warmth and criptation in your joints is my guess ? but the nerves running down your arms will rubb on the spurs and that will cause them to get raw and inflamed I think the causes are sometimes over use or maybe twisting them in an odd way for a while this was allways my problem as a auto , truck techician I would allso get to where I could hardly raise them to work over my head , so I would wind up on z packs and steroid shots and missing a day or two after difulcult jobs then I had knee and back trouble to I juct could no longer hold it togeather I managed for years though . But let your dr know if it doesn't reside and maybe he'll get you in to a nero. who will check you out . if it's nerve imflamation you are most likely on inflamation meds for the RA so it should claim dow to take it easy for a while , ( now that's not saying to ignor it by all means let your dr know . ) johnLollipop girl <lollipop725@...> wrote: so tell me more about how the nerves and the arthritis MAY go together, this is all a learning experience for me.. like this morning, I am OK. not fine, but OK>. i have more normal aches, like when it feels like you have to crack your neck/nuckles, things like that. see its weird.. my dr. was rated the best in his field many years in a row in the metropolitan area... he is cited for so many great things.. and when I told him, he immediately started feeling my arms and stuff but said it sounds like a flare up... so now I'm all confused. I don't doubt him for a minute, he's been treating my mom for over 20 years. But this nerve stuff doesnt sound good. -- - In Rheumatoid Arthritis , john stratton <kentuckycowboy2@...> wrote: > > Hello Gril , > Well it doesn't sound like normal RA pain to me either , I have many bone spurs from OA and when they effest my nevers or get them imflamed I often have thes type of pains in the same areas you are describeing , ( but keep inmind we are all differant and this could have nothing to do with you , your dr is best to check you and find out the cause ) but mine normaly last a couple weeks or a little longer if I don't go get meds to help hurry it along . But yes I tend to hold my arm in the tipacal sling position like if it's broken LOL the nerves tend to rub on the spurs and get imflamed or " sometimes just get impinged which is a more constant pain " but again this is common to me and my body but I wanted to let you know what causes it for me ,,,, hope you feel better soon . Oh yes a nuroloigist is who you need to see . > john > > Lollipop girl <lollipop725@...> wrote: As most of you know I'm a 26 year old female with RA (diagnosed > approx. 2 years ago) > > well let me explain something I'm feeling and please give me your > thoughts/advise on it... > > earlier this week I got this shooting pain IN my right elbow.. when i > say IN I mean IN... then my right wrist starts hurting, my fingers > (on my right hand) and even in the middle on my hand on the top, like > in the bones ya know?, now my right shoulder and even my right knee... > > thankfully i had an appointment already with my rhematologist this > week but when I saw him the pain had subsided.. but today it was back > with a vengence!... certain movements.. i sweat it was just agony.. > something I never felt before.. like I wanted to keep my arm as still > as possible.. > > he said it was probably just a flare up.. > > now I'm usually just achy all the time.. and once in a while i will > get a lot of pain in one area or another... but why my whole RIGHT > side? Guest guest
My guess is that RA causes swelling and a flare causes the swelling to increase to a point that it crowds the nerves and pinches them to get strange nerve signals as though you had a pain somewhere else. A pinch in the neck can cause a pain to feel like it is in the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, or foot or even multiple places even though the trouble is in the neck. The most common case of this is carpal tunnel syndrome because of a place in the wrist where nerves pass through a small space. When the wrist gets inflamed it causes lots of pain in the hand. There are other places through out the body where nerves pass through a fairly small opening so swelling causes pain to be felt as though the problem were at some other location. Pain can also be radiated to feel like it comes from elsewhere in the body. When I had carpal tunnel problems I hurt in both hands and both shoulders and when my wrist was fixed all the pain went away. This is just my crude understanding so check with your doctor for a real story. God bless. It's funny you say that becuase thats what my mother said and she has Lupus so she knows what the pains are like.. do you have any idea what would cause such a thing? When I mentioned it to my Rheumy he just said it sounded like a flare up.. so i dont know?--
