Hi : I just joined the RA group myself (oklahomaserenity) & received your email. I also have fibromyalgia & degenerative disc disease which complicates things a bit. I found your email quite interesting, as I've been considering relocating to Rapid City, S.D. (my adult daughter & family are considering returning there after living here in Oklahoma 8 years). Is there a shortage of rheumatologists there like there is in Oklahoma? We have lots of weather changes here, extreme heat or cold one day and then may be 20 degrees different the next) which keeps me flaring almost constantly. Summers always horribly hot which is as difficult for me as extreme cold. Can't take the humidity either. I have noted my biggest problem is sudden changes in the barometric pressure. Do you notice any problem with that? I never considered that the coast would be an option, but I think we're all different. Have you visited the coast since

having RA? I hope (as I'm sure that you do) to learn more about RA from this Board. The majority of what I've learned about RA has been on the internet and from Arthritis Association & CDC website. Although my doctor has an excellent reputation, she stays so busy that she's never really taken the time to explain it to me in depth. Good luck & hope you find some answers from this Board. D

I know that heat and humidity does affect me - was at a 'retreat' this weekend and saturday we were in an outdoor workshop all day (with fans and tons of water) and several of us were aching. My knees got really bad and they hadn't been bothering me for awhile prior to that. And some people who don't usually have problems - were. I don't seem to have a problem or pattern with barometric changes but that could be because I'm hurting most of the time anyway. The heat and humidity don't bother me as much as the changing pressure. Last time I flew in a plane I felt the changes when the plane climbed or came down lower.....changing barometric pressure. And, oh, boy....hurricane season is upon us.....joy, oh, joy.....NOT! Ardy

Hi , This is Steph in VA. I was dx'd in 1999 while in college, returned home to NYC for 6 months after being dx'd & then moved here to VA in 2000, where I have lived for 6 years. I have noticed an improvement in my symptoms living here in VA (3 hours or so from DC) compared to living in NYC (the combination of the climate & craziness!). About barometric pressure ... in the wintertime, I can predict the weather, at least precipitation (with a 95% accuracy rate!) Take care, Steph in VApretty24355 <kfonseca@...> wrote: Hi all,I live in South Dakota, the western side in the Black Hills near Mt. Rushmore. While it is beautiful, it is quite dry and land locked. I long to move back to coast (I am from Miami)and am planning to move to the upper Oregon Coast when I retire in 5-7 years. I must be strange because when it is cold here (and it can get to 30 below), and when it is humid/rainy--my RA & osteo do not bother me. But, I have read where it should and that is the norm for folks with RA and osteoarthritis. My Rheumy says all are different and that I could do just fine. She says that some of her patients who have moved here for the dry weather have actually moved back to their wetter climates because they did not do well here.I am looking for others experiences and thoughts on this issue. Thanks as

always,
