I haven’t tried any serious changes

to my diet but I have always had a rather healthy diet with lots of fruits and

vegetables. Some people do have food sensitivities that can give symptoms

like RA and if they find the right food to eliminate they do a lot better with

their RA. However, no single food group is always responsible for the

problem so it takes trial and error to see if anything helps. The best

way to see if you have food sensitivity is to try an elimination diet to eat

only things with low likelihood of food sensitivity and this will cleanse your

system of past foods. After about a month if you are better then you are

likely to have some food sensitivity and now you need to find out what.

You then add some food group for about a week to see if there is a

change. If not, then you add another food group and keep repeating till

you find out what is responsible. It’s not easy or fast so I’m

satisfied with Western medicine but everyone has to judge for themselves what

is worth trying. I haven’t tried it but here’s a link that

describes the elimination diet and there are a lot of variants. God

bless.

diet changes

hi all

i was diagnosed several months ago and when plaquenil didnt work i was

prescribed celebrex which i decided not to take bc of the possible

side effects. then symptoms got worse and i was barely able to walk.

doc just prescribed fenac (diclofenac sodium, voltaren) which has

been great for pain and waiting now to see second rheumy (didnt really

like my first one) and will probably be put on methotrexate. just

wondering if anyone benefited from a change of diet? eg. eliminating

nightshades, increasing vitamin c etc.

I think diet was a bigger factor for me than I thought. I'm doing

great on this diet prescribed by the naturopathic doctor. I've had

some " slips " but it's getting easier as I go. Energy level is

steadily climbing. It's nicer to do this with a knowledgable guide

vs. books & Internet, which is how I did my last elimination diet. I

have some really good supplement support, which is helpful.

Had labwork done last week and am curious about how my liver's doing

after needing to go off Arava. Will find out Wed. when I see my GP

for a physical. (Her nurse called today...wonder why? Liver?)

Still feeling pain-free! No meds.

It's an elimination diet--where you eliminate foods that often cause

sensitivities in people, such as wheat, corn, soy, eggs, dairy

products, oranges, beef, pork, sugar, caffeine, and nightshade

vegetables (tomato, eggplant, potato, etc.) After 25 days, you begin

to reintroduce those foods, one at a time and observe any reactions

to them (headache, nausea, etc.). This diet takes a lot of attention

and discipline (the hardest part has been the caffeine and sugar); I

look forward to resuming a more normal eating pattern. Hopefully

there won't be too many more foods I'll have to permanently

eliminate. I feel light and clear, and have a sense of freedom from

addictive cravings. My energy level is more stable throughout the day.

I can't credit the diet with my pain-free status--that just happened

on its own, right after I stopped the Arava 3 weeks ago. I waited for

the pain to return, but it hasn't. I've been on this diet for 8 days.
