I asked my Lyme doctor if she had reported my case to the health department?

She said she couldn't because I didn't have the bullseye rash or had the tick

that bit me.

Even though I have had positive western blots for 2 years, I can't be

counted. She said it was all very political.

I looked on the NJ state website, and could not find any criteria, but did

find the number of cases, for each year, listed by county. I have included

the website that has the Healthy NJ 2000. It is the objectives for NJ's

board of health. Their goal is to reduce lyme disease cases to 275 a year!

They then say that will be unlikely met.

Healthy New

Jersey 2000 http://www.state.nj.us/health/chs/yr2000up/disease.htm

In the chart, listing the number of cases, it has the word rash in

parenthesis. This would lead me to believe that only cases with rashes are

counted.

Here is the summary of that report:

" Since 1988, the annual incidence of Lyme disease (with rash) has increased

over 200 percent. The number of cases has consistently far exceeded the year

2000 objective. This has occurred despite significant prevention education

and tick control efforts throughout the state. It is doubtful that the year

2000 objective will be reached "

I tried calling the NJ Board of Health. Man you would think I was trying to

ask for top secret information. I got passed around and was asked alot of

questions on why I want to know the criteria. The last person I spoke to

said that even though I had positive blood work, I would have to have late

stage manifestations. Fatigue and joint pain wasn't enough. She said all

doctors got the bullentin on what the criteria was.

I asked for a copy, and was said I could not have it, since it was sent to

only doctors.

Does anyone have this bullentin? I just want to know what is written. This

makes me mad since my doctor is willing to do the paperwork involved, but

can't. Evidently, the state can ignore the CDC's recommendations and make up

their own rules.

Could you imagine how many cases there would be if we were all counted?

Well enough ranting. If anyone has the official word on reporting lyme

disease, please help me understand it.

Gentle hugs,
