I don’t qualify of assistance so I haven’t checked them out and I don’t even know if they still exist. I hope you can get some help from one or more of them. You really should be seeing a rheumatologist at least occasionally if possible and maybe use your regular doctor in between times. Few doctors besides rheumatologists really know how to diagnose or treat RA. Prednisone might give you some temporary relief of symptoms but it doesn’t do much to slow the permanent joint damage of RA. It does help with diagnosis because if you get relief it shows that some type of inflammation is probably involved and that could be RA of many other things. If it doesn’t help then the doctor probably needs to look elsewhere to identify your problems. Prednisone has some bad side effects so you don’t want to take it any longer than you need to so you can function. God bless. I'd get the older two off to school, get the younger ones changed and fed, then take them into my bedroom. I'd shove a dresser over a couple of inches so it blocked the door handle, then turn the three year old loose on the floor with a box of toys, and tuck me and the baby back into bed!!! The baby would sleep, I'd read and doze a bit, and the toddler would play until she got tired then climb into bed and nap with us. I'd schedule any errands I had to do to coincide with the older two children getting out of school so I could pick them up on my way home. And my son and oldest daughter helped me with household chores, getting supper for their dad, and watching over the younger children. There's a French phrase that sounds like " lazy fair " ......and I adopted lazy fair as my way of life. It's not that I was too lazy to fold diapers.....but it was easier to pile them in a basket under the crib and fold one as I needed it. Like that....lazy fair.... it was fair to the baby who got a clean diaper and didn't care when it got folded, and it was fair to the joints in my arms and wrists. Nowadays, perhaps, the word " priorities " might apply....the priority is to have a clean diaper for a baby.....no one (except my mother in law) cared when that diaper got folded. See how many ways you can apply " lazy fair " to your life and your babies..... Ardy
Guest guest
-Margaret, I can totally understand what you are going through. I am 31, and getting married next April. I have RA. My biggest fear is should I have a baby? I fear my baby will be crying, and I will not be able to get to them, because my RA is acting up. I know when I have morning stiffness, I sometimes can not even get out of bed! People tell me that " Motherly instinct " will kick in. Is this true? Guest guest
Thanks for writing, it does kick in, but it is hard sometimes. I used to be one of those mothers that played all day and never got tired. I have to tell my kids my knees hurt so I can't run as much. We read and do puzzles alot now. I love my babies so I try to just handle the pain most of the time. I think you can do it, there are nothing like kids to get you motivated. I am a new member, I was diagnosed with RA 6 > months ago. I have tried to get other insurance but no one will cover me with RA. I am going to try disability. I am the youngest of 6 girls, my mom died of MS when I was eight. All of my sisters have an auto immune disorder, I quess it runs in my family. I just pray my kids will be ok.
