Guest guest
Hi Sierra, Boy your email couldn't have come at a better time. I am somewhat " new " to the RA scene, but can relate to alot of the questions, problems, misery of the group, here. I am now on MTX and Celebrex, after finding out Mobic did nothing for me. Plus I am an insulin dependant diabetic. Today I told a friend of mine that I " may " stop the MTX..........All I can think of is the MTX side affects vs........what????? the pain...........and all the other things of RA........Sorry, I know I sound like I'm whining but I have really gotten NO relief from these drugs that cause horrible side effects......If they were working that would be one thing..... Guest guest
MTX worked really well for me for the past two years. I recently switched to injectible which may be the reason I'm having a problem. The DMARDs seem necessary to avoid joint damage...my mom has it and it's not a pretty sight. Hope things get better for you! S --- In Rheumatoid Arthritis , " katsha1 " <katsha1@...> wrote: > > Hi Sierra, > Boy your email couldn't have come at a better time. Guest guest
Methotrexate can take several months to become effective so don’t give up on it too quickly. Of course if the liver tests are bad enough that’s a good reason to hold off at least for a while. If you’ve been on Methotrexate for several months without much benefit it might be time to add a biologic to the mix. That would likely be Enbrel, Remicade, or Humira or it could be one of the newer medications Rituxin or Orencia, or an older one Kineret. I can’t understand the lack of a phone call. If they don’t have a good explanation you might consider a second opinion. God bless. Guest guest
Sometimes the drugs are working even though we feel the same because our disease is progressing and would be worse without the drugs. Also it often takes several months for the drugs to be come effective so it is hard to see how well they work. The reason for the drugs is to delay or avoid permanent joint damage. The pain we have now is only the tip of the iceberg. Permanent joint damage is likely with untreated or undertreated RA. God bless. Guest guest
Dear Sierra- I have been there as I am sure most of us have. Falling through the cracks is not a happy experience. Chasing lab results is ridiculous. I dont know how abnormal the test results were but I am sure you are uneasy. I never wait for results if they are expected. I call the next day. Never assume a passive role in your medical care, because as I learned, the squeaky wheel doesnt get the oil. Follow up and let us know what happens. Guest guest
Listen to your strong sense and don't put any more into your body. No one knows for sure about any medications and how they may effect each individual. If it doesn't help and makes you feel like you're putting poison into your system, stand your ground and don't let them tell you-you have to take it. > > Hi folks. > I wrote about discovering that my lab had not sent February results to > my rheumy--results that were, for the first time, abnormal.
