LoL I'm 13lbs under the weight requirement and its never posed a problem.. I

don't know many children who way that much.. maybe teenagers but never

children..

Wow.. considering she weighs a whopping 20 kgs right now that dose is especially

high.. crud.. I knew she was on a high dose, but never really put that together

with the problems we have been having lately..

Hi Becki,

Interesting. Josh's doctor started him on a once a week 25mg dose. The nurse

said he always starts off on the 25mg once a week dosing. He weighs 95 pounds.

He's taken 5 doses so far. Not so sure, yet, if we're noticing any difference.

Nothing major. We did decrease his prednisone dose a week and a half ago. Now

he's taking 15mgs prednisone one day and alternating with 5mgs the next.

Handling it okay. So maybe Enbrel is doing something in the background ... as

I'm almost certain he'd be struggling more than he is, if our past experience is

any indicator. So maybe it's enough to help us taper down, even if he's not

doing cartwheels.

Which is still very welcome, in our book.

Hi Georgina,

I got that off the Enbrel web site and I guess they are basicly saying that

the newer 50mg pre filled syringes has been FDA aproved for kids weighing

atleast that much.

Thats odd that Josh's rheumy started him on such a low dose.The starting dose

is .4mg per kilo so Josh should be taking atleast 34.5 mg or 1.4ml

With I am a big fan of .5mg per kilo but he has outgrown that dose and

just getting the .4mg

Sorry to hear Josh hasn't improved as much as you had hoped for.I would

question the dose at his next appointment.Happy to hear he has been able to cut

back on the steroids though.

Dennis:I hated the 50 mg shots so much I went back to the 25 mg twice a week. To me, the 50 mg I could only describe as injecting hot sauce! I too am a medical professional experienced at giving shots.

I also called Enliven, and did all their tricks, even ice beforehand, but finally 'threw in the towel' and went back to the 25mg. I have heard that they have had tons of complaints, both because of the stinging of the solution (likely due to the ph and the preservative) and the dullness of the needle (I'm told this is due to their manufacturing process).

Dennis,

I am sure you have already hear this..but try allowing the Enbrel to

sit out to warm up. Use ice on the site to numb it...also try

rotating the needle as you inject to try to spread the med out.

Beyond that I have not clue..go back to the 25mg shots.

I was on 25mg Enbrel but it stopped working. Now I am on Humira.

When I took my shot last nite the needle was so dull it was NOT

funny. Then the stuff burned like FIRED!!!!! No matter what I did.

I am throughly disgusted with this med. the stuff burned for almost

20 mins after I had injected it. It was as if it was a bubble of it

in the skin just burning away. I even tried massaging it so the med

would dispurse and the burning pain would stop.

The weather is killing me. Plus I missed a Humira shot..so that just

made it worst.

I agree with you as an experienced ex paramedic, critical care tech,

Pedi-CCU and neonate transport...this really sucks...

Me, too! Same here....I'll do the 25 mg easily and the 50mg can be for someone else. I tried it out for a month = forget it = begged my rheumy to go back on the 25mg. I hate the 50mg because needle is significantly more dull than the ones I was getting with the 25mg, but I hate the shots so much I'll do anything to drop it down to once a week. I find that letting the med sit out for 15min does seem to lessen the stinging. I do the shots in my stomach.Marcia Stoyle <marciastoyle@...> wrote: Me, too!
