I believe that low blood sugar for a diabetic is usually under 70.

Non-diabetics probably can be lower than that without any noticeable

effects. Diabetes does sometimes first present itself as hypoglycemia,

or low blood sugar, but usually the low comes as a rebound effect from

high blood sugar.

Have you been diagnosed with hypoglycemia? How often do you test?

Hi :

Looks like you would use the site you indicated after your physician

indicated what he/she was going to use. The site looks like a conventional

medicine site while this list generally leans towards alternative protocols

dealing with cancer. There are numerous protocols and the list has many

knowledgeable members to answer questions and give ideas. Additionally

there are a couple of members that 'work' with cancer patients.

Hope this was of value.

Here's a link I like with a lot of basic information about RA that might be

useful for many newbies. It describes a lot of medications and we are all

different about what works for us, how quickly, and how well. Methotrexate

is the most commonly used RA medication and if that is not enough people try

to add a biologic if they can afford it. In the US they are very expensive

and I think in most countries with socialized medicine they are hard to get

prescribed. God bless.

Subject: [sPAM] Medication advice needed

Hi,

I am new. I have been trolling through medication info sites such as

www.medonline.org.uk (non commercial) where there are more than 70

treatments listed with links to further information.

Its all a bit much to take in as a starter. Is there a site with a

good summary of what is good/bad ?

thanks,

Hi Harold

I am on MTX prednisone , and many others.. next is the Bio, my insurance will only cover Remicade and

truth I don't like the sounds of that medication or any of the other Bios. The Side effects of MTX and pred are bad enough. What are your feelings on this? Thanks

Donna

Donna,

I'm on Methotrexate and Remicade. When I started over 4 years ago I was on

40 mg Prednisone along with first Arava alone and then Methotrexate alone.

After about six months I was down to 25 mg Prednisone so we added Remicade

at 3 mg/kg. That helped some but we then increased the dose of Remicade to

6 mg/kg and I was finally able to get off Prednisone completely a bit over a

year ago. I still keep some on hand in case of a flare but I haven't needed

it. My last two doses of Remicade we have reduced the dose some because I

am doing pretty well and I don't want to be overmedicated.

Many of the warnings about medications remind me of a comment by Mark Twain:

" The reports of my death were highly exaggerated. " I think many of the

warnings are written by lawyers to help protect against lawsuits rather than

by doctors to help patients. There is some slight basis for all of the

claims but it can be as weak as a person developing pneumonia from some

unknown cause while taking the medication, even though there are dozens of

more likely causes for the pneumonia.

Lately there is a lot of press about people taking biologics also developing

cancer at a rate higher than the general population but these reports don't

also say that people with severe RA also develop cancer at a similar rate to

those on a biologic. I believe the RA is what leads to cancer rather than

the biologic but at any rate the likelihood in absolute terms is only

slightly more that someone without RA or not taking a biologic. Perhaps as

a guess it might be a change from one in a thousand to three in a thousand.

That's three times the rate but still not much compared to the very likely

serious joint damage from untreated or undertreated RA.

Anyway I'm happy with my medications and I hope you find a treatment that is

effective and that you don't have problems with. God bless.

Harold
