A Great RD is someone who fits. Its like a favorite pair of gloves. Your first assessment and all tests will be followed until their conclusion by a good RD who will get to the bottom of your symptoms. I had to wait almost a year to get a RA Factor positive. I had abnormal ANA titre tests and high sed rate, but the RA didnt show up until it was ready. It was so strange. They guessed for the longest time. Thought I had lupus because my body was such a hot zone. I was dismissed one by one by RDs and I can remember how rude they were. No one took me seriously. I thought I was going crazy. Then I went for my first appt with yet another RD who took blood tests. I was floored when I was called to come in the next day. I was told in a matter of fact rather cold manner I had RA. Regardless of what form of diease your inflammation might evolve into, take steps now, prevention, prevention, prevention, to lower high levels. I think damage is done in the first months of onset when nothing is done. You know your body. You know what hurts, what feels stiff and painful. Your body is telling and the tests are telling you something. Tell the next person you see that you want to get this disease "process" ( whatever is stewing) in check. Start a preventative protocol which may mean plaquenil which is an anti malarial to lower your inflammation, as well as a low dose of steriod. They are all usually standard. If a doctor says they cant treat you because they dont have a label for your disease, thats hogwash. Its never to early to feel better and reduce pain and inflammation. Remember that there are hundreds of connective tissue diseases that relate with an abnormal immune system. Your body is telling you that. I got the best information and referrals for RDs from the arthritis foundation. www.arthritisfoundation.org and find another RD in area. You can call them as well. They will always help, and if you can find a support group in your area, it would be very beneficial. I credit them with getting me the best RD and the best information and treatment options. Yours, Deborah
