our capsules from our DAN's compounding pharmacy - every time they could only

(e.g., Amazon), but am not sure whether or not those sold on the Internet are

reliable in terms of quality. Do any of you know?

Thanks very much for all of your replies!

I just realized that one bottle of " succinic acid " that I have at home is

actually DMSA. Our DAN sent me this last time, but later they said that was sent

to me by mistake. Today as I called the pharmacy again to order DMSA and

mentioned about succinic acid, they again told me " succinic acid=DMSA " ! The

capsules were made by Kirkman, and I confirmed with Kirkman that this is true.

Looks like FDA has suggested this change of name with some manufacturers, which

made me confused.

I tried Thorne's Captomer which is succinic acid and my son had the worst

tantrums...I told my dr and he said that the dosing is not evenly

distributed and that ASD don't metabolize it well...From now on I will stick

with the compounding.....

tantrums...I told my dr and he said that the dosing is not evenly

Kirkman changed their DMSA label to succinic acid. It works very well for us.

Are you sure you are even getting DMSA (is it on the ingredient list)? Succinic

acid will not chelate as far as I know.

And for Jingwen: have your prescription changed to reflect a higher dose. If

you currently use 25mgs, say you want to up the dose to 50mgs but have the DAN!

write the scrip to say the capsules should be 25s. That way, you get double the

amount you use and still are technically getting a 1 month supply. Saves a

little $$$. See how high you can go!

Hi Pam,

Our Kirkman succinic acid capsules are 32.5mg, and the label indicates that they

are " from 50mg of Meso-2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid), so I guess each 32.5mg

succinic acid capsule is equivalent to 50mg DMSA?

Also, curious to know how much DMSA people are using on their kids.

My son weighs about 43LB, and we use 3X25mg for 3 days on, 11 days off. Is this

considered a low dose, medium dose, or high dose?

Oh boy,

I just had a sick thought when I read your post. I also have a prescription for

DMSA that is filled by Kirkman Labs. In the past I have used 2, 25 mg capsules

per dose. I never even looked at the new bottle closely and have been giving my

son 2, 50 mg capsules for the past 3 rounds (every 4 hours). Why didn't that

click? Augh.

That is a huge dose, based on our adhered to guidelines (he weighs 63lbs). BUT,

I just finished a post on another list talking about our new found surge in

progress over the past 3 rounds.

What do you all think? We really have seen some good things after quite a time

period of so-so progress that can be attributed to things other than chelation

(tutoring, speech therapy, etc).

And, Jingwen, it does mean 50 mgs DMSA. The product has not changed, just the

labeling. Stil prescription only from Kirkman. That is what they tell me.

I checked out this site. Funny, they provide a link to Andy's book to help

explain the process of chelation yet they advocate large doses every 8 hours.

How come one place sells it without a prescription and the next requires one?
