Before I began taking LDN in

February, and before I began the Specific Carbohydrate Diet a couple of weeks

earlier – and with the combination of both experienced a phenomenal

increase in energy, help for Crohn’s, reduction in asthma symptoms and

reduction the need for asthma medication, reduction in rheumatoid arthritis

pain, healing of muscle pain and elimination of lactic acid build up in my

muscles, and weight loss, which I needed – I was on a protocol – a

diet and various supplements, probiotics and digestive enzymes -- devised by a

chiropractor with an interest in nutrition who developed it for IBS patients

and people with inflammatory bowel diseases. He shall remain nameless.

He contacted me earlier today by

email when I unsubscribed to his site and asked if I wanted to comment about

why I unsubscribed. I told him about LDN and the SCD and how much they have

helped and are helping me. He wrote back, suggesting that I shouldn’t

need to be on “medication” at all (meaning the LDN); then I

responded in more detail. The second time he wrote back, this is part of what

he said:

We

also disagree on one main point and that is that I believe that the human body

can live without medication. You are using LDN...a medication. My protocol

strives to that end. Please review the insert that comes with LDN or Goggle it

and you will find there are side effects when using LDN. Please also note it is

lacking clinical testing with only animal and in vitro testing, but not much in

vivo (in humans).

[That’s a typical criticism, but not a valid one, I

think.].

[ I referred to Crohn’s as an auto-immune disease. He

believes it’s simply food-allergy related.] So he said:

You also

are making a very critical error in your thought...in my opinion. We will agree

that Crohn’s/Colitis are inflammatory conditions, meaning that something

is creating inflammation in your body. You would also agree that a lack of

Naltrexone floating around your bloodstream is not the cause of your

inflammatory process. So, what is?

Could it be a lack of proper levels of probiotics, imbalanced chemistry of the

gut, dairy intolerance/allergy, gluten intolerance/allergy, fructose

intolerance or other food allergies....only to be identified through proper

testing...and you do not address them, then you still have the cause of your

condition ongoing and the LDN is not stopping it, simply masking it by making

changes to your body chemistry that gives you the impression you are feeling

better. You are feeling better, but the inflammatory process is still at work

and there can be dangerous and lifelong complications to other tissue and

processes in your body from that. Not a good plan for my patients

The SCD is addressing the

probiotics issue, imbalanced chemistry of the gut, dairy intolerance, etc., and

clearly the LDN addresses that as well. I’m interested in list

members’ responses to this, especially his assertion that LDN is simply

masking changes to my (our) body chemistry that gives the impression

of feeling better. I think he’s nuts and can’t admit that his

protocol failed, at least in my case. LDN regulates the immune system but he

doesn’t seem to be “getting” that.

What would you say to him?

(I’m not sure I’ll write back again, but I’m still curious to

know how some of you would respond to his criticisms.

Thanks.
