Guest guest
Hi All, As usual, I have waited 'til the last minute and don't really understand the quilt instructions. As I can't sew, I thought I'd put something together out of felt as Jeannine (I think), suggested. Overall size, 2ft.x 2ft with a center area of 16 " x16 " creating an 8 " border...right? What I don't get is, what goes in the center area? Are people putting their names (last names ,too?) and their state in there...and if so, what is used to print this info? Or, do we create a picture in there? See, I told you I was confused! :-) Joan LI NY
Guest guest
Hi Joan, I bought felt, and sewed an old piece of white quilt material to the back to make it stronger, then I bought felt letters and hot glued them to the middle, giving my name, the date of my tick bite and where I was bit, (South Jersey) I also wrote out the word , then ran out of letters. Jeannine suggested Puffy paints, if you want to use that to write with instead of felt letters, I think I will put a few stitches in the letters so they don't fall off, I don't trust the glue. I also hot glued some patches and doo-dads around the writing, and I found some small fake flies, tore their wings off and they look like ticks, I will glue them on too. I wanted to decorate the border but doubt I will have time. Don't worry about fancy, the most important thing is to get the quilt done, so it will be large and memorable. I wanted to make one for , but my energy level is low, not sure I will get to that. Guest guest
Thanks for the great tips, Marta. Did you put your last name on the quilt? Hugs back, Joan
Guest guest
Our quilts are really quite varied. As long as they reflect something about you [let the piece tell who you are], or allow it to express your anger about the disease, or just put your name - it all counts. The important thing is just to DO IT!!<g> Ours look really neat next to each other - and I got Happy's from Maine which looks really, really neat - she had her whole group sign it. Happy's is just a simple 2ftx2ft design with 2 ties at each corner so they can hang together. So, don't worry that it doesn't conform. The only conformity we need is 2ftx2ft, and 2 ties in each corner. Otherwise, anything goes!! REMEMBER, we're just trying to put a face, a person, a personality on Lyme disease and to show the numbers. My daughter and son both did their own pieces. My daughter's has her name in the middle of some cool blob designs which she ironed on. My son's has a heraldic crest with a sword and his initials emblazoned in the crest, which is set in a nightscape background. My husband's is simply " Lyme " with a " stop " sign through it. Mine piece shows the scales of justice [giving up my lawyering], the cross [giving up in my 4th year of Seminary], and my name in a piece of cloth that looks like tick grass. Others in our group are quite interesting with many stories and intricacies. So, be bold, be creative, JUST BE YOU and it will be good enough!! Guest guest
Marta, I ended up stapling the 8 " ends to each corner (plus only had single not double - my mistake), so I can change it if its not right. Not feeling good - everyone say a prayer I feel better tomorrow please, we are suppose to leave around 3:30, after my son is home from school. But if I feel like this - I think I might infect everyone with something else, plus just feel really really bad! Just call me , that is my new name for now on - as in 's Law. Or is that already taken? Vicki, Md Re: [ ] ?Quilt? >Vicki, I did the same thing, so I just cut the tie in each corner down the >middle, now there are two. Guest guest
And a good one, thanks B, I will try to remember to pack extra ribbon and a staple gun. BTW, I threw together a quick patch for , it lists all the members (I scotch taped a print out of the member list) so the group will be represented at the rally. Guest guest
Hi Bernadette, I have a bag full of supplies I planned to bring - good minds think alike - amazing I can say that part " good minds " . I have fabric magic markers, glue gun, tacky glue, material, and will add tape. Good idea. Guest guest
Hi Vicki, I mean , I sure hope you are able to recover in time to make the rally, I know what you mean about feeling so bad. We must all be over doing it getting ready for the rally, exactly what my husband warned me about. Well, remember we can always crash in the hotel rooms, at least we will be there. I just got word that my dad was taken to the hospital by ambulance due to a fall during the night....talk about bad timing. I will be a nervous wreck at the rally, but not much I can do here but worry and wait. Always something! Guest guest
Hey Reid, I'm feeling better - not good, but better, and I'll be there. Don't worry about your quilt. I think the best ones will be the ones that heart and soul went into. Plus, mine looks like a first grader's art project. I had glue in my hair, on my glasses, the floor and table every where! But at least it is something. I think it says a lot about my state of mind - or what's left of my mine. See you soon. We'll arrive around 8:30 or 9. Second floor - if your up to it, look us up. Got a million things to do still - talk to everyone later. Vicki, MD " this group has been a saviour inmy disease " Ditto! for me too Reid. >marta i will have a cell phone......and a spare wheel chair....i agree we >will all pay for this weekend and the preplanning for aa week or 2 but it >will be worth it.....cna't wait to see u again and the others i have >met.....and vicki get better.......i want to meet u so bad.....along with my >other lyme family i have never met.....like a family reunion....what did i do >before lyme aid????.....this group has been a saviour inmy disease.....>Reid
