Guest guest
I know you can have Hep C for 30 years without symptoms, but not sure about it not showing up in blood liver test. But I was diagnosed a couple of months ago, and know this is a scary thing to deal with. This group is fantastic and very informative. I start treatments of Friday and medicine has advanced much with this disease. Just remember we are here for you. Lynne [ ] Just found out today After being bit by a patient at work they found I had Hep C. I did not get it from the 80 yr. old pt. I am 49 and in Nursing school and not sure how long I have had it. I have no symptoms now or ever before. I cannot put my finger on any exposure I would have had lately but can think of something 22 yrs ago and another 32 yrs ago. Is it possible to have hep C that long with no problems ? I take cholesterol meds and have had my liver tested 6 times in 4 yrs with no abnormal findings. Guest guest
That is commonplace. I estimate that I had it for about 18 years before discovering it. It was only isolated in the mid 1980's, and is not found under normal testing. You really have to specifically test for it to find it out. In hindsight I had a physical in 1982 and the dr remarked that some of my liver enzymes were "a little high". Sometimes they do spike for various reasons, so they didn't take any further measures to discover what was going on. I never had any noticeable symptoms, other than consistant high levels of ast/alt. I was successfully treated in 2001 and am considered a long-term responder, being undetectable up to 1 year after completing treatment. People don't usually become symptomatic with this disease until the late stages of liver impairment. Welcome and keep us posted with your findings and feel free to ask any questions you may have. -dz-lyno46 <lyno46@...> wrote: After being bit by a patient at work they found I had Hep C. Guest guest
Thanks for the info Dave. I studied a little bit about hep C in Pathophys, Pharm and reg Phys. I wish I would have paid more attention. Time for review. Ther have been 10 guys out of 140 guys in my graduating class die from comp of Hep C. These guys were all continued drug and alcohol abusers except for one to the end.Several others including me now have it. I have not lived there for 19 yrs.The numbers seem a bit high don't you think. Only one female out of aprox 140 fm's in the same class to my knowledge have died from Hep C. There are also many others from this town of 13,000 with Hep C but my class seem to be hit especially hard.I do NOT of course have all the numbers or facts. Guest guest
Those numbers do seem high, but certain pockets do get hit like that. I read somewhere of some group of soldiers with a very high pct (80, 90 ?) They were using what turns out to be unsafe procedures in their inoculations and it seems almost everybody that got inoculated on that day in that spot ? (I'm sorry I don't remember the exact details or numbers, but you get the idea). I was an alcohol/drug abuser also, but have been clean and sober for 8 1/2 years now. Good luck in your continuing fight against this beast. -dz-Greg <lyno46@...> wrote: Ther have been 10 guys out of 140 guys in my graduating class die from comp of Hep C.
