Guest guest
Hi , Go to our links at http://www./group/CMT/links and click on the ones that say AFOs. Those will give you an idea of what exactly AFOs are and how they can possibly help. AFO = Ankle Foot Orthotic. Made of supportive material to help with walking. CMT symptoms can be treated somewhat, with AFOs, medications, rest, less stress, etc. I too take extra magnesium and potassium. Sometimes too much of the B vitamins can be more harmful than good. I only take Vitamin E. I took Primrose Oil and it did nothing for me. Also used it on my skin and it did nothing there either. Charcot Marie Tooth disease is the most common inherited neuromuscular diesease, although it can also be a mutation in the genes. Look farther down on the links page, there are some genetic links that might explain this better. So I don't think antidepressants cause CMT, although I do Zoloft can cause pretty heavy sedation. Be careful with exercise. Some CMTers say it helps them. Others say it makes symptoms worse. Doctors all over seem to ignore this. Look though out past posts on exercise at http://www./group//archives in the search box put in 'exercise' you will find all kinds of 'reports' from us! I do some biking and swimming and now light gardening again. You Doctor seems to have a poor attitude. Is there any chance of finding another? Are you connected into MDA in Australia? They help CMT people here, even though MD is a dystropy, CMT is an atropy. Two different things. Ask the group any questions you have. There is a great amount of experience here on all kinds of things related to CMT. ~ Gretchen
