Gretchen;

I use a three wheel at Walmart; I don't like those as

well as I do my Jazzy 1120 powerchair! It has joystick

control ( great for my limits with hands and weakness)

and very stable, climbs curbs, and safe on rough

terrain or steep inclines etc. I don't have a lift or

a ramp to take it out of the home yet, so this is only

reason I use the one at Walmart.

Medicare paid 80% and MDA paid other 20% and up to

$1700, which allowed me to get the lift on my seat

that medicare don't allow; (think limit has gone up

now to about $2200)on mine with script from doctor

stating reason for power chair due to hand weakness

and progression of lower legs and back problems due to

CMT weakness and atrophy; scooters have hand bars and

my hands cramp and freeze into clawed position after

short time useing those;( I don't drive a car anymore

for hands hurt and lots of clawing from gripping

steering wheel and have propreception with legs and

feet and in hands too) they are too hard to grip for

me. I think I grip extra hard for trying to feel where

they are and what they are doing and it makes them

have more pain and stress. Using the joy stick on

chair is great! I also have power lift on seat to go

to cabinet height and reach uppers to do and put away

dishes, & cook meals; I vaccum from my power chair to

keep from falling (vaccuming causes me to lose balance

and also get weak) and stressing lower back and legs;

I also can move furniture with it; LOL Hubby freaked

out one day I'd rearranged some furniture and he

thought I'd lifted it. . . but I smiled and said I

figured out how to do it without hurting myself then I

went over postioned my powerchair firmly against the

end of the loveseat and went forward sliding it with

ease! He just grinned and shook his head! My kids

laughed and Said " COOL, MOM " !!! It's fun learning how

to remmove my limits with my new Tool! I sit in it as

my chair for everything; eating, watching TV sitting

at computer. . . it keeps me from getting up and down

so much ; I can still feel like I can pamper the

family without using so much energy!

~ sorry so long explaining. . but have to

tell all! Love Libby

A script fading procedure was developed by PCDI many years ago and they

apear to have had good results with it. They would teach the child to run

a card through the language master, which would contain a script such as

" I enjoy singing the blues. " The child would run teh card through and

turn to the person next to him and say the person's name and follow it

with " I enjoy singing the blues " The person who is the listener woudl turn

and say " You do. I like singing hte blues to, do you know hte words to

stormy weather. " This begins a dialogue between teh two. Never teach the

" O.K. goodbye script " early on (just like you never teach the more sign

early). I would get the Krantz adn McCallaghan book on Activty schedules

and there articles opn script fading. I thin kthat one recently appeared

in JABA around 2000.

If you understand hte theory behind script fading, you see instantly that

this can be done by more then just a language master. One can coach a

child through a conversation and vido tape him speaking, tehn play back

the video and havethe video represent the coach this time.

jeanne, there are numerous scientific abstracts that support the use of

both Vitamin C and curcumin as flu modulators. The cites are so

voluminous that I won't post them here. If you're interested in cites

for curcumin, go to www.grouppekurosawa.com and check the blog. If

you're interested in cites for Vitamin C, Google for " orthomolecular

medicine " and hundreds if not thousands of cites will come up.

Whether massive infusion of Vitamin C can turn back the tide of ravaging

influenza, I doubt it. Can preparing either or both prepare the body to

resist infection? That's what the cites are all about.

I have to echo the praise for Ross. Last weekend I got the Austin ( I

know, I know) upper body workout set and it IS challenging, a Baron Baptiste 30

min Yoga tape I am saving for tomorrow, and a Belly Dance party DVD (more fun

than working out) and there were a ton others I could have picked up with a bit

more cash. But they were all in the $5-10 range.

Darcy, careful with the wrist weights!! If you use them, use them briefly and

use them lightly. The wrist is a joint as well and the elbow not so far away,

both easily injured. You are better off carying the weight in your hands and

when you do no more than 3 lbs during jarring aerobics for a long period of

time. Elbows, elbows, elbows. I learned the hard way over ten years ago and had

to wear braces on both arms for months. Ironically enough they were

Austin wrist weights...lol. But I was a flute player with a small case of carpel

already.
