Guest guest
Nicolas... May I suggest that you refer to the Scoliosis Research Society's link to surgeons specializing in Scoliosis surgery that I've pasted below. Although there may not be a surgeon in Peru who performs this type of surgery, you should be able to find a very good one else where in South America. Why travel to some far off land when you could find a very good doctor much closer to where you live? I hope this helps!! The fact is that surgery of scoliosis is not performed in my country. I would like to ask you for references of any health facility, health foundation or any other resource that could manage our daughter to be operated overseas with a minimal cost. Any information provided will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much, Nicolás Rovegno.

I was fortunate to have spinal surgery done by Dr. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei in New York City. He is not only a brilliant surgeon, but a great humanitarian who takes his gift to different parts of the globe. There is a website for his FOCUS Foundation, which is www.orthofocus.org. Dr. Boachie is based in the U.S. out of the Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC. If you need further information about what he does, their website is www.hss.edu. Best of luck to you and your daughter, and let us know how you do, and if you need any further assistance. D.
Guest guest
Dear Nicolas Rovegno, I have recently had scoliosis surgery (thorocolumbar scoliosis, cobb angle 96 degrees). My surgeon is currently president of the National Scoliosis Research Society. His clinic is in La Jolla, California which is near San Diego. His name and address: Behrooz A. Akbarnia MD San Diego Center for Spinal Disorders 4130 La Jolla Village Drive; #300 La Jolla CA 92037 Orthopedic Surgeon Tel: 858-678-0610 His web site is: http://www.sandiego-spine.com/ I am 3 months post-op now and doing incredibly well. I am now 2 inches taller and experiencing no back pain. I highly recommend Dr. Akbarnia. San Diego has the highly regarded San Diego Children's Hospital and also, Scripps Memorial Hospital, where I had my surgery. Both are fine hospitals well equipped to do scoliosis surgeries. Guest guest
Hi Nicolas... The FOCOS team performs surgeries in Ghana and the Barbados. I believe you need to be from one of those nations to qualify for free surgery. However, I think they also take a limited number of people from other areas, who can pay a small amount for their surgeries. I'm thinking that your best bet would be to start from this page: http://www.orthofocos.org/contact.html Good luck. Guest guest
I have to have surgery. They told me I have to come off my methotrexate for one week before and two weeks after. Does anyone know why? Jolene
