Guest guest Posted June 18, 2006 Report Posted June 18, 2006 I notice a number of people are taking Prednisone and are concerned about the side effects of DMARDs. Prednisone on short term basis is a wonderful drug but long term it has the potential to create a whole host of problems. The following link lists the side effects of this drug. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a601102.html It tends to downplay the role it has in osteoporosis. Long term it can and will deteriorate bones and many other organs. One of the side effects is extreme tiredness, added to what PsA does that is a big negative. PsA can also eat away at bones so adding Prednisone can accelerate that condition. Most rhuemys will try to move you off Prednisone as a long term solution because they know what a negative situation this can be. It is a great drug used for flares on a short term basis. Please have a detailed discussion with your doctor about the risks of DMARDs versus Prednisone for a long term therapy. Don Quote
