Guest guest
Diane, My sons have both had chronic problems with ligament strains. The explanation that made the most sense to me was that Lyme increases the inflamatory response. When you combine that with my kids' sports activities (and they are doing well enought to play sports) and growth, they have a propensity to be easily injured. Your daughter's case seems much more complex than that, but it could be that the Lyme is exacerbating but not causing the problem. Best wishes, > > Thanks Annie - when you are done with one hurdle another comes along - > > Does anyone know if our ligaments muscles in the knee are easy to tear because of lyme? I know she has low muscles in her legs - family doc has never said anything but it's easy to see - she tore a muscle in her knee yesterday and for no reason - no injury at all - seems very weird to be - besides the large cyst that takes up allot of the bone leg................. she was up in pain most of the night - > thanks, > Diane > > > > > ________________________________ > From: Annie <akannielm@...> > > Sent: Wed, October 21, 2009 9:51:14 PM > Subject: Re: [ ] cyst in bone? anyone else? > > > Sorry, Diane, I don't , but that would really scare me. Guest guest
Diane, I'm so sorry you and your daughter are going through all this! I don't necessarily know the answer to your question but it did ring a bell to me that there was one med my LLMD was considering for my son last year for M. Fermentans and he said if we had to resort to using this med that we should be VERY careful to pay attention to any complaints my son had about pain around his knee because there was a possible side effect that could cause damage. Basically he seemed to say that if he complained of any soreness around the knee while he was on this med then he would need to stop taking it immediately just to be sure. We ended up not using that med so far and I can't remember the name of it but if you tell me what meds your son is on, if I think one might possibly be the one my LLMD was concerned about I can look through my records more and see if I could find the name of it in my notes. Or maybe someone else on this forum knows what med this might have been. Sorry to be so vague, but I thought it was info worth throwing out there in case there is any connection to the meds your daughter is taking. Take care, Patty [ ] cyst in bone? anyone else? Does anyone have any children with lyme that have a cyst in the leg bone? Guest guest
Levaquin can cause weakening of ligaments but is usually prescribed to adults for Lyme. As far as the cyst, my nephew had 'something' removed from his leg last year, I tried to get them to test for Lyme but the doctors insisted it wasn't Lyme (you know the mantra) and wouldn't test him. He was put on antibiotics for over a year, 3x/day, after the surgery. I'm sorry too that you and your daughter are going through this, I will add you both to my prayers for a full recovery! Barbara PS You may all ready do this but every time we were put on a new med I would google it and read all info I could find on side effects, etc. From: Diane Biel <dkbmama@...> Subject: Re: [ ] ligaments tear easy?? Guest guest
THANKS - my 14 year old use to also have cysts removed before we realized this was all due to lyme and they could grow back anyways..........but this is something different it is in the leg bone itself - not outside - it's really strange - going to see a doctor tomorrow about it - so we will see - i am sure he will roll his eyes if I even bring up lyme..................when will the times change?? thanks everyone!! Guest guest
This was 'in' his tibia, he was 14 and they thought it was a sports injury " Osgood-Schlatters " because he played basketball and it was in the area where the patellar tendon attaches. It was a large growth in the bone that had to be totally removed. At that time Finette had great advice on having the piece of bone tested when removed which I sent on to his parents but was ignored by the doctors (If you look back in posts I think you could find that info). And guess what the diagnosis was?? No diagnosis! They didn't know what it was so as I said they put him on a year of antibiotics 'just in case'. Unfortunately its parents like us that have to fight the fight to get the right care and testing for our children. Barbara From: Diane Biel <dkbmama (DOT) com> Subject: Re: [ ] ligaments tear easy?? Guest guest
thanks for that info - yes you are right we have to fight.......... I will contact Finette - she truly helps me allot - it's scary isn't it - because every time you turn a corner something else happens - cant even imagine if they have to remove this - it will take most of her bone away - she goes in tomorrow to start figuring this out but i know they will not know anything about lyme........even with the kids teeth they are affected by the lyme - at least i found a dentist that is open to it..........poor kids that have to suffer!! bless you all that help your children everyday and understand what is truly happening to them - I am sure there are many kids that have lyme and the parents have no clue and have no compassion for the kids........... Guest guest
Most people know this but for those that don't. One of the worst things that Lymes does to almost everyone, children and adults is " attack " the joint fluid, disc fluid, vertebra, cartilage, bone and teeth. That's one reason so many Lymie's are sent to Rheumatoidologists. So many expect arthritis and it's not there but the pain is. I read once in an article about Lymes that, " a child's hips are not suppose to ever hurt. " Every Lyme patient needs to find a great dentist (good luck with that.) I know of one in Houston if anyone wants to know. As a child around 13 I remember being in a lot of pain with my Lymes, especially in my knees, hips and shins. Oh well, just add my whole back to that list.
