Lump after IM bicillin injections-need advice!

Ok folks, here's a strange one even for my family...

Evan has been on the IM bicillin for about 3 weeks at 2 per week and

we alternate sides. Every time he is injected into his left butt cheek

it forms a lump that perisists for days and longer. The right one is

O.K. I have been told by others that maybe the drug itself is pooling,

maybe its going under or between the muscle etc. I know the technique

is good as the nurse who is graciously volunteering her time is VERY

experienced and besides if she werent doing it well it'd be on BOTH

cheeks.

I have read about changing the site from upper outer quadrant of the

rear ( the dorsogluteal area) to a more side/below hip

(ventrogluteal) area. That using this different muscle is safer, less

reactions

Plus we have tried warmth on the site for a few hrs, gently

rubbing/massaging etc.

I am concerned as the insert that came with the drug/pre dosed needles

say that the tissue in the area can necrotize (die),and/or infect,

abscess and an assortment of other not so good reactions, and Im

guessing that if the drug does not dissipate as planned and sits there

in the lump, it will be more likely to cause these harmful

reactions. Not to mention the loss of value if it doesnt get to where

it needs to. I have also noticed that the days we do this weird left

side, he doesnt have as bad a herx reaction...hmmm

Anyone else experience this??? what happened to the site? what if

anything did you do to fix it??

thanks!!

(Hope everyone is enjoying the Easter/Passover Holidays!!)
