Power outage

Hi folks,

There was a power outage in Seattle last weekend, and I had my Enbrel in the

fridge. It was a 24-hour power outage. As soon as I felt like the fridge

wasn't cool enough anymore, I put my Enbrel in the freezer (which was now fridge

temp). Do you think it's still decent? What are the risks of taking it if it

has been a room temp for maybe close to an hour? Is it just less effective or

is it dangerous? Yeah, I know...I'll call the Enliven people, too.

Thanks,

Jayson

[Editor's Note: Jayson, generally, a fridge takes 6-8 hours after a power

interruption before things begin to spoil and a freezer takes 24 hours. You are

right, though, to contact Enliven as this is not something to be risked. Did

the Enbrel still seem cold when the power came back on? When we lost power,

after about 4 hours, I took the Enbrel out of the fridge and put it in the

freezer carton it comes in along with 4 of the freezer packs. I felt that since

Enbrel could withstand at least 24 hours of shipping under these conditions, it

should be able to withstand being kept this way during a power loss. Indeed,

the Enbrel needles were still quite cold when I removed them from the pack. I

think it's a good idea to keep one of the styrofoam shipping containers in the

garage and to keep at least 4 of the polar packs in the freezer " just in case " .
