Guest guest Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 I hesitate to get in the middle of this, but as a list owner for over 10 years and no sign of a list moderator, can I interject here please? This list should be about sharing. Sharing Lyme experiences, struggles, and ideas, as well as what has worked and what has not. Open sharing requires that when someone posts to the list they are not blasted for what they share. On all of my lists, members are required to be kind, gentle and respectful. We don't criticize others for their choices or ideas. We can offer alternative ideas, or gentle and courteous input, but always with respectful verbage such as: " I would like to share my own experience with ___________, if you don't mind. " or " That is great that ________ has worked so well for you. " " I am so glad that _______ has worked for you. It is one of the mysteries of life as their are no double blind studies to back up your experience. " Anectodal information is not inconsequential or invalid. That is what makes lists like this so important. I share what has worked for me. I try to guess why it worked, or offer opinions. What I share just might be what someone needs. I never expect to be accepted as an expert or scientist. I am a mom who has Lyme disease with a daughter who has Lyme disease. I research a lot, hours every week, but do not have a biomedical degree. Does that make my input invalid? Absolutely not. This list needs to be about open sharing. I do not blindly accept what anyone says on any list. I always research what I read and hear, even from my doctors. That is my responsibility. I am responsible for my own health and the health of my children. Please, please let this list be about open sharing, kind and gentle, among a group of people who are hurting for their kids. Thank you, Michele in CT Quote
