Guest guest
In the recent adrenal discussion by Andy, he mentioned something about Cortef and prroblems possibly occuring on a dose exceeding 20mg. Does this mean 20mg per day? If so, what about the people that need more than 20mg/day of Cortef due to their level of adrenal issues? I am taking 25mg per day and am thinking I may need more - so I'm just wondering about Andy's thoughts here. Thanks

Yes. > If so, what about the people that need more than 20mg/day of Cortef due to their level of adrenal issues? They need to be aware of and control the risk of suppressing the body's own production of cortisol, and avoid making poor decisions that result in this. This is an area where a very good understanding of physiology, the various different protocols, what they do and why comes in, which most people need to get by working with someone who knows all these details and being completely honest and forthright with them about exactly what they're doing, and communicating timely when they decide to change things. > I am taking 25mg per day and am thinking I may need more - so I'm just wondering about Andy's thoughts here. Make sure you are doing all the NON HC things you can as much as you can, and make sure that you are not using the HC for something (anxiety and pain being examples) where there are other better choices. It would be best not to be on more than 20 unless your doctor knows you're doing it and is comfortable managing this. > Thanks > > Andy Amalgam Illness: Diagnosis and Treatment Hair Test Interpretation: Finding Hidden Toxicities Nourishing Hope for Autism: Nutrition Intervention for Healing Our Children Biological Treatments for Autism and PDD
Guest guest
I have hypothyroidism as well as adrenal issues. These have been with me since a young child. Not sure why. I had tons of allergy shots, but I also had significant stress as a child. Additionally, one of my grandmothers had major thyroid issues - and probably adrenal as well. I am taking my temps via www.drrind.com temping method. It uses 3 temps a day, 3 hours apart, beginning 3 hours after waking. The average is *supposed to* be 98.6 when adrenal/thyroid health is optimum. If the temps fluctuate day to day, that is supposed to mean adrenal issues - either thyroid rx needs decreased -or- hydrocortisone needs increased. One is supposed to gradually increase thyroid rx, as long as temps remain stable, allowing one to reach the 98.6 average. That can require a lot of thyroid rx. I am taking Cytomel as well as hydrocortisone 25mg/day in 4 divided (different) doses (generic, which may be less effective per mg than cortef). My temps have come up a lot, though I am still averaging around 98.3. I actually have minimal *issues* related to my adrenal/thyroid situation, which does seem to be a bit unusual - BUT, at the same time, I have noticed positives with my temp increasing to 98.3. I do have a dr prescribing and following me. Truly, it seems that almost no doctors (alternative or not) understand adrenal/thyroid issues. Any thoughts on my situation? Guest guest
I forgot to say a couple things... I DID have one MAJOR issue, that has disappeared with my Cytomel and Hydorcortisone use - at the levels I am using. That would be my mastitis/breast infections. With my first two babies, I had over FIFTY severe breast infections - really really sick - requiring antibiotics. With my third (and current) baby, I have had TWO breast infections for which I have taken antibiotics. The last one was in February. Soon after that, I switched from Isocort to Hydrocortisone - and I have had no more breast infections. That is AMAZING for me. With my 1st 2 babies, I had a breast infection every couple weeks when they were young. Any slight bit of engorgement would bring an almost immediate breast infection. I went to so many doctors. Everyone found me to be so interesting and intriguing - but no one could help me. An immunologist told me it was because I have an IgA deficiency. Apparently not. Also, I want to mention that I am NOT taking hydrocortisone for pain or depression or anything like that. I don't have those things. > > > > In the recent adrenal discussion by Andy, he mentioned something about Cortef and prroblems possibly occuring on a dose exceeding 20mg. > > > > Does this mean 20mg per day? > > Yes. > > > If so, what about the people that need more than 20mg/day of Cortef due to their level of adrenal issues? > > They need to be aware of and control the risk of suppressing the body's own production of cortisol, and avoid making poor decisions that result in this.
