EMPOWER Director Receive Award for appreciation of service for HIV/AIDS

Dr.M.S. Swaminathan , Member of Parliament and famous scientist presented the

award to Mr. A.Sankar for the appreciation of EMPOWER’s services in

Prevention and Control of HIV epidemic in TamilNadu over the last 10 years at

the southern Regional NGO Conference at Chennai.

The award is presented by AIDS prevention and Control Project, Voluntary Heath

Services (APAC – VHS).

EMPOWER had been working in HIV/AIDS Prevention for the last 17 years and

partner of APAC-VHS for the last 13 years. For about 9 years the

organization carried out HIV/AIDS prevention among the slum population of

Tuticorin Corporation. Currently for the last 2 and ½ half years EMPOWER works

with Female Sexworkers and Injecting Drug Users in Tuticorin Block.

Mr.Shambu Kallolikar, I.A.S. project director, Tamil Nadu State AIDS

Control Society, L.V. Saptharishi, co-chairman, Confederation of NGO’s of Rural

India, Dr. E.S. Krishnamoorthy, honorary secretary, Voluntary Health Services ,

Dr.Bimal , project director, AIDS prevention and Control Project were

also present.
