Hi Liz,

I was the first one to apply for a scholorship at our AJAAW this afternoon. The estimated costs for just 3 was $1,570 for round trip flights, adding Shelby was over $2000.I am going to e-mail then call Monday. The 24th(July)

is s 6th b-day so we are going to ask for 1 small gift and a contribution to the A.F.Just Grandmas alone we are looking at $300-$400.

If our local AJAAW could have such a huge impact on my hubby and me I can't even imagine what a National conferance will have on us.I just loved your article,it was so moving. The next paige about Carlin was an extra bonus.I actualy know her and Carlin.

I apolagize for reading posts so rapidly.I am pretty sure about getting this scholarship but feal so guilty about their estimated airfare for just 3.Time is imperitive.Who do you recommend calling from the National office. We find out who goes May 12.You can apply every year for a scholarship but those that have never been get picked first.

I just feel very fortunate that the Nashville Chapter is wondeful.

Hi Donna,

Thanks.I applied for a full scholorship minus 1 $160 a night fee and the $150 conferance fee. They have a guestimation of something like $2093 for RT tickets for 4.I will fax a more personal letter better explaining what others are paying and that instead of being spoiled with to many presants checks made out to the AF to help cover costs.

Hello ,

I don't think the lists will accept a file as big as the Reflexology booklet so

I will send it directly to your email address and you can print it out.

The most important points for your stomach are right in the mid section, on the

bottom of your feet. If your stomach is bothering you it may be very tender when

you push on that spot. It is important to take good deep breaths while pressing.

Doing at least 5 or 10 LifeLift breaths while pressing on the spot that is

tender is a good idea. You can often feel the tenderness and pain release in

minutes...

I hope you feel better very soon.

Take good care,

Rashelle

Liz, you were talking about doing the reflexology breaths for your stomach. I

do the reflexology every day but I usually focus on my thyroid points more

than anything because I am hypothyroid.

The last 2 days I have had major problems with my stomach and digestion. I

have looked everywhere and can't find my chart to show where the points are

for

my stomach. Could you briefly tell me where you are pressing/rubbing?

Thanks a bunch,

Rashelle,

When I do the reflexology and LL I always rub in circles like you talk about

on your tape. Is it better to just press instead of rubbing when you are

really tartgeting a problem or does it matter?

That is where I thought the points for the stomach were but I couldn't quite

remember.

Also, you and I think Liz both said that breathing while pressing the stomach

points help keep your stomach flat. Do you think it has to do with helping

with bloating, etc.. from digestive problems?

Thanks again for sending the booklet to me.

Hi ,

Absolutely!!!! I have digestive problems and colon problems with bloating

etc. etc. etc. and reflexology helps tremendously. Reflexology is helping

my stomach get smaller, but it's not flat by any means, I wish it was.

:-)

I usually press my pressure points but my foot is often sore the next day

so I'm wandering if I'm pressing too hard. It doesn't hurt when I do it

however so I don't know.

Liz,

Mine doesn't hurt when I do it either, but I haven't noticed any soreness

later. I do press pretty firmly though.

I am going to really focus on my stomach area. I have had horrible digestion

problems for years. In fact, there are so many foods I won't touch because it

just isn't worth the pain and bloating and gas I experience for days.

Hi ,

I normally do about 25 - 30 LL breaths per mile, I spread the breaths out

as I go along. Most of the walking workouts that I do is done with

weights, the stretchy band, or the ab belt and I can't do many LL breaths

while doing the resistance training part.

The way I count my LL breaths is I count 5 breaths on one hand using one

breath per finger, and then I put one finger up on the other hand,

representing 5 breaths for each finger. Then I continue the process until

my five-breaths-per-finger-hand reaches 25 and then I start again

remembering that 25 is already done, so that I can go up to 50 and so on.

Does this make sense?

Yes, Liz, that makes perfect sense. I also do the workouts with weights,

belts or stretchy band and cannot do it very much during that time. I think

maybe

I am doing it too fast. I can't hold the breath for as long as I normally do

when I am not walking along.

Boy, does it get my heart rate up quickly, though, in the beginning of the

workout.

Thanks for your response.

Hi ,

It is great to hear from you.

I find that if I just relax and do my LifeLift breaths as I walk, without

bothering to count, it is much more enjoyable. You can usually know that each

breath is about a half minute. If you do 20 minutes of walking you have done

about 40 LifeLift breaths. Just enjoy it and you will get more out of it.

Take good care,

Rashelle

Hi Liz,

Her email address is Gail.Darling@...

Check out: http://www.ctsnet.org/home/gdarling

and

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=PureSearch & db=PubMed & details_term=(darling%20g%5Bau%5D%20AND%20notpubref%5Bsb%5D)

(btw, Sandy, you’d be

interested in knowing Dr. Darling has an interest in VATS)

There is a tonne of info on Dr. Darling on

the net. (All of which looked positive, I might add J ) She looks like a

keeper to me!!

Also, Dr. Pierre, just in case .Pierre@...

Here is an email I received from a Dr.

Pearson:

“I am no longer doing clinical

Thoracic Surgery - but have no hesitation in recommending one of my young

colleagues at the Toronto

General Hospital : Dr Pierre - Asst Professor, Division of Thoracic

Surgery , Toronto

General Hospital - tel 416 340 5354. His secretary is Ms Barko. Dr

Pierre has exceptional experience and skills in the minimally invasive (small

incisions) techniques for esophageal surgery - and this is certainly the

optimum clinical approach for the surgical management of achalasia. Dr Pierre

is already very experienced with both the condition and its surgical

management. You will note that I have copied him with this reply - so you now

have his e-mail address.

Yours

sincerely

F Griffith Pearson MD”

Also,

”Your friend can certainly contact Dr Gail Darling or Dr

Pierre at the Toronto General Hospital 416 340-4800 and extension 3121

or 5343, respectively. Both of them have a large experience with this surgery.

Best regards, Marc de Perrot”

Also Dr. reccommended her to me.

Let me know what you think! Her wait list for an

appointment I believe is a month and a half or so…so get going on those

phone calls!!

Take Care!

Liz, I'm glad you finally had a special outing like that just you and Steve!

Love to you,

Melinda :o)

(no subject)

Good Morning LL Friends,

It is Monday and I have been a little lax with my " change of life the way I

am eating plan and my breaths " BUT today is Monday and I am recommitting

myself

to it again.

I love this affirmation, I have it taped to my computer " Create the kind of

self you will be happy to live with the rest of your life " And " Try to see

the

positive or humorous side of everything that happens today. " I am excited

about today! Love you! Connie :-)

Thanks , you connected me to her and I very much appreciate

it. I keep telling others how much becoming your own advocate

changes the course of your treatment. If I had remained the

passive, accepting patient I would be looking at years of botox

until it deteriorated to requiring an esophogectomy.

-I am glad you are feeling a little better. We do tend to cope though

don't we. I think it is a strain on our family too. I was starting to

think this is as good as it gets until I heard from this group. I

know my husband and girls are keen to get the surgery behind us and

maybe have some normalcy in the family again.( even though I don't

think I can define normal- I never tended to be normal I am sure

haha) They have been so supportive and understanding. We have an ad

on TV for a biscuit call riveta. Don't know if you have it there. In

each of the ads the mother eats the bisciuts and does zaney things

that kids would do like jump in all the puddles on a rainy day etc.

My kids firmly beleive that ad was me. Don't know where they get

these ideas, eh? I know I certainly am not like that these days. I

think you need a little of the kid in you and have fun.

I hope you have the same back up at home to help you through to

November. The count down is on for both of us.

So take it easy and I will be thinking of you.

Thanks Girls!!! I just can't stay out of the bathroom today, it's about to drive

me nuts!!! I may ask the doctor to catheterize me at the doctor tomorrow to give

me some relief. I think I went 15x last night before finally sleeping the rest

of the night. :-o It's very annoying to say the least.

Re: Liz

Thanks Girls!!! I just can't stay out of the bathroom today, it's about to

drive me nuts!!! I may ask the doctor to catheterize me at the doctor tomorrow

to give me some relief. I think I went 15x last night before finally sleeping

the rest of the night. :-o It's very annoying to say the least.

Love... the bathroom dweller.. Liz :-)
