Guest guest
Wow, no I haven't, but I'm glad you're okay! Barb [ ] anaphylatic shock - OT I've had the strangest night. Ate around 5:30, nothing strange. Took the boys to visit toy land to get ideas for the holidays and birthdays. Felt great. Got home about 8:15. Both boys eat a quick snack and off to the shower for one, the other to bed. I had to hit the rest room and my stomach took a nose dive, really strange. Then while in the bathroom, both ears had an intense deep itching both at the same time and then I started sneezing, like 12 times. My husband asked me if I was ok, very strange for me. All the sudden I couldn't breath throw my nose and I had problems breathing period. Scared. So came out and took 4 tsp of Benadryl and took out the epi pens just incase. Then remembered I had some prednisone so took that, 2 tsp. Anyway, I'm flushed and rashy looking from the chest on up and can feel swelling in and around my eyes. I counted 3 hives on my stomach. This is totally amazing and I have no idea what caused it. When at toyland, I had to get a b-day card. You wouldn't know they had large square tubes of every nut and I have my peanut allergy son with me. I told him to please not touch a thing and hurried up. Felt fine, sang on the way home. Isn't this just amazing. I'm sitting here maybe an hour later, tired I'm sure from the Benadryl, but amazed. I've never in my life had this severe of reaction to anything so life threatening. Honestly, I'm not sure what it even could have been. The nuts reaction, it was maybe 1/2 hour after being around them and like 3 hours after eating. Anyone ever have this kind allergic reaction so severe and have no idea? The only thing different I did was open my sons new toy and he's the peanut severe food allergy guy, he's fine. I'd almost think to toy was laced with poison but I'm the only one affected. Sorry, ot but had to share. I guess it's time for me to try no dairy, challenge nuts and maybe get some blook word done on food allergies. I'll sleep with my epi pens tonight just in case. Guest guest
Sounds scary. Last Feb my stepmother-in-law was out of the country and had a severe allergic reaction to kiwi fruit (no known prior allergies, had never had kiwi fruit before) and had to be life flighted back to the states for them to figure out what was going on. She's ok now but very leery of any food she doesn't recognize or with too many ingredients. Guest guest
My thoughts - allergies are seldom apparent on first exposure. It takes one exposure to set it up, and then another exposure to be apparent. Maybe it was something in what you ate, that you have just never had the second exposure to. Maybe an added ingredient in something you normally purchase? It sounds pretty scary. I hope you figure it out so that you never have to go through that again!! Guest guest
My Dad had something similar late last summer. He was swimming in his pool (which wasn't heated so was a little cool) and started feeling itchy...got out..went inside to shower thinking that something had gotten into the pool that was bothering him...started feeling short of breath and took some Benadryl. Got into the shower, felt lightheaded and passed out. Woke up a minute or two later and felt horrible for quite a while. After testing with a lot of trial and error...turns out he has developed a rare allergy to COLD against his skin. He now can't swim in a cold pool, hold ice cubes, and must be very careful in cold weather. If you put an ice cube against his skin,he will hive up and after a few minutes start to wheeze. I once had a similar reaction with no breathing problems, just hives to being in a VERY HOT car with no A/C driving across the Mojave desert in July. These types of allergic reactions are rare...but your body can develop an allergy to anything. What kind of toy did you open?? My allergic son once reacted to brand new wooden alphabet blocks by getting hives running up both arms. After the blocks were washed, rinsed and dried in the sun for a day...he could play with them fine, but they were coated with something he was allergic to. Guest guest
I had something similar. My son takes no-phenol chewable enzymes. I had taken one because it says between meals can help with yeast. I took one and within seconds experienced severe itching in my mouth and my throat felt weird, possibly closing up. I grabbed the kids liquid benadryl and it helped me right away. I still don't know what exactly I am allergic to in the enzyme, but my son still uses them without trouble. > > > > I've had the strangest night. Guest guest
Could it be a combination of things? When my brother-in-law was young he was allergic to the combination of oranges and tuna. He could have them separately, just not together. Guest guest
Don't know. I assume it was fresh. The allergist she saw after she got back home did a bunch of testing and gave her a list of things to avoid. Apparently kiwi allergy is related to rubber allergy among others. Kiwi has an enzyme in it similar to papain in papaya and bromelain in pineapple. I think she was told to avoid those as well. Guest guest
Almond milk is always a good option. We still do raw cows' milk here (never pasteurized - it is poison), but also do almond milk. You can make your own easily!! Almonds, water, a date and a blender is all it takes. Sprout the nuts overnight in water, then blend them and add a date for sweetening. You then strain the solids out for a clear, milk liquid. We use the solids in baking - muffins mostly. Almond milk is best after it has chilled for a few hours. Tastes great on granola. :-) You can find specific amounts in online recipes. Can't take time to look mine up right now. (I don't have a very good memory for recipes, even when I do them often).
