Hi Bill I do this kind of zinc it has copper in it because zinc lowers your

copper. I take this brand.

http://www.myvitanet.com/zincop100cnt.html

Dr. Shippen says do 2 pills for the first 4 weeks the do one a day I don't

take it at night it keeps me up.

As for male enhancement herbs not one combo worked for me but just plain old

Maca. I do 1 tsp full in some apple sauce in the morning and 1 tsp full at noon

in some yogurt. I buy this by the pound and it keeps my hormones leveled ups my

libido and my load.

what have you noticed?

Thanks,

Phil, you've mentioned Maca several times over the past couple years.

As you are on TRT, what does Maca do for you that TRT is not already

providing? How did you know that something was missing and that Maca,

instead of modifying your TRT, would fix it?

I feel it works it upped my libido when I had a orgasm just a drop of seamen

came out on maca I get a bigger amount like when I was in my 20's.

Here is cut and paste.

============================================================

Maca stimulates the adrenals to produce it's own cortisol and DHEA

and probably a few other hormones as well. Since Maca is a food, it

has to be taken in much larger doses than what is recommended on some

products found in Health Food stores. I was doing great on 3

compacted level teaspoons(using a measuring teaspoon), which is the

approximate dose that most people find benefit at. Maca is expensive

at this dosage if purchased from a health food store and so it is

best to purchase it in bulk 1kg packages, which actually turns out to

be quite cheap.

This is a website by a lady that uses Maca and she provides good

information and dosing instructions as well:

http://allaboutmaca.dreamstation.com/

This website sells Maca in bulk at the best prices I've seen:

http://www.therootofthematter.ca/cgi-bin/itsmy/go.exe?

page=1 & domain=12 & webdir=therootofthematter

The following is an excerpt from a doctor that personally uses Maca

for adrenal function:

" Henry Campanile, MD., offers Adrenal Balancing Maca root

In keeping with its mode of acting through the hypothalamus and

pituitary, maca has a balancing and nourishing effect on the adrenal

glands. Henry Campanile, MD, a 50-year old specialist in internal and

family/complementary medicine practising in Florida states: " I happen

to have been born with only one adrenal gland just like my father. I

started taking cortisone in my late twenties to relieve the fatigue

which I was already feeling. Knowing the dangers of long term

cortisone use, I looked around for an alternative, and this

circumstance is what got me interested in complementary medicine. I

started using pregnenelone about 10 years ago and it has been fairly

satisfactory. But one of my patients told me about Maca and I started

taking it about a month ago.

It is phenomenal! I haven't felt this good since I was 20 years old.

I have so much energy and look so well, my patients have remarked on

it and told me how rested I seem. I've got so much energy now, that

I've started an exercise program " . After trying it on himself, Dr

Campanile began using maca with his patients. My first patient to

take maca capsules was experiencing hot flashes and other menopausal

symptoms. She started feeling much better after using this herb for

only four days. I'm also employing it with patients who have a low

adrenal function. " "

The first thing I seen was my seamen went from a drop to a full load. My libido

went up and I did not feel the highs and lows so bad after my shots.

Male enhancement as defined by what?

Penis size?

Levels of libido?

Erectile functioning?

Amount of chest hair?

Increase of level of naturally produced testosterone (Total T)?

I know of no natural compound that will increase Total T levels to any

significant degree (and most so advertised won't increase it at all),

but there are a couple of natural compounds that have shown some

evidence (even if simply strong anecdotal evidence) in being able to

convert a higher percentage of Total T to Free T. But unless you have

good levels of Total T to start with, that isn't going to necessarily

help a whole lot. Especially if your Total T levels are below normal

or low normal.

In that regards I would submit the standardized EXTRACT from Nettles

Root (and NOT the leaves), Avena Sativa, and Maca (possibly).

I believe that the amino acids L-Carnitine and L-Arginine are helpful

in certain regards also... if one is sufficient in that regard.

L-Arginine, for example, is helpful in the release and utilization of

hormones and has reports (and also in my own case and combined with

niacin) of aiding in erectile hardening. In fact in some studies,

Arginine, taken in combination with proanthocyanidins or yohimbine,

has also been used as a treatment for erectile dysfunction (however

esults were mixed and one has to be cautious with taking yohimbine due

to its side effect of sometimes raising BP and/or creating anxiety).

Also, many individuals use an effective adaptogen (*)... such as one

of the various Ginsengs, Eleuthero, Maca, Ashwagandha, Holy Basil,

Rhodiola (one of my favorites), etc., etc. Because they gradually

feel better to some degree due to the positive effects of the

adaptogen (*), assumptions are then made that the compound " boosted

their testosterone " (or whatever) whereas clinical tests would show

that no such thing actually happened and that T levels are still too

low.

Bottom line (IMO) is that if you have a problem with a hormone that is

too low, that you replace it into optimal range levels with a

bioidentical hormone. Consuming some plant - which in itself might

have side effects (for example certain adaptogens will raise cortisol

levels while others will lower cortisol levels) doesn't make sense in

comparison to giving your body a bioidentical hormone that is

molecularly identical to that produced by your body! And a lot more

" natural " .

(*) Adaptogen: " Knowledge about adaptogens dates back thousands of

years to ancient India and China, but serious scientific study did not

begin until the late 1940s. In 1947, Dr. Nikolai Lazarev defined an

adaptogen as an agent that allows the body to counter adverse

physical, chemical, or biological stressors by raising nonspecific

resistance toward such stress, thus allowing the organism to 'adapt'

to the stressful circumstances... "

At this moment my DH is taking 2 pills (our local health food stores

don't carry it in bulk, they have tried to order it for us though and

can't) which is about 1050mg. Everything I have read about MAca

suggests that 1000-2500mcgs a day is the most effective dose via pill

form. His libido has increased, semen output has increased and he

has a since of well being.

Phil- Do you find that the where you get your maca reputable and do

you get good quality Maca??? We have considered buying it bulk so

that he take a larger amount w/o breaking the bank, but have

hesatated because you never really know what you are going to get via

the net.
