Hi blue and welcome,

If you go to the files section and read " Finding a Male Hormone Dr. " this will

help you find a Dr. and tell you about calling first adn asking questions. Also

if you check the database section we have Dr.'s names and info some of us see.

I have Neighborhood Health and no qualms at all about switching PCPs

Have you had lab work done to confirm you are low/borderline low?

Post the numbers please.

If you messed with steroids to build bulk it is quite possible you

disrupted the HPTA system for hormone levels. But it also means

doctors may suspect you of pursuing T for " abuse " rather than needed

therapy. (ly all the steroid abusers are making life very hard

for those of us who need this therapy.)

On the plus side there are studies showing that sometimes the hpta CAN

BE JUMP STARTED TO RETAIN NATURAL LEVELS THROUGH CLOMID STIMulation

or HCG. I believe the studies are in the group file area. Give it a

look.

Well, it wasnt my intention to make your life difficult. My apologies.

My numbers:

IGF-1 (SOMATOMEDIN-C) 136

Testost 280-800 ng/dL 281

FreeTes 8.8-27.0 pg/mL 8.4

It has been four years since I used any sort of exogenous

testosterone, so I would think that my axis has recovered as much as

it is going to. I am aware that despite these numbers, some Doctors

will 'suspect' something... but what can I do? Am I supposed to lay

down and cry because I was a bad boy years ago?

I would be happy with any therapy that got me back to where I need to

be. Clomiphene would be fine. As would HCG. Or Tamoxifen. Whatever.

I saw the " How to find a doctor " page. But I would much prefer it if

someone could actually tell me that they had a good experience with

someone. If not, okay. But I wanted to ask.

Thanks,

Hey JJ - welcome to the group. Based on your numbers, you would seem to be low.

Have you ever tested your estradiol? We usually see a high conversion of T to E2

depending on age. Most doctors want to follow the normal protocol which is if

you are in range on total T you are OK. We are finding this to be wrong because

the range included men in their 60s and older so the curve includes all numbers

and is not age specific. For example, a guy in his 30s should not have a total T

say = 250. For me it was more important to find a doctor that would listen (no

God syndrome) and prove to him I had done my research. Present him with some of

the documents we have in the files section and discuss treating the symptoms. I

would think in your case it would be prudent to try a stimulation test first. If

that does not workout, then evaluate TRT options. This group has multiple men

with a variety of situations and experience. Do not hesitate to ask questions

(even personal) because we

have all be there.

Just my 2 cents - Arkansas

Nothing personal. It's just a general observation. Because of steroid

abuse anyone looking for TRT is highly scrutinized and many GPs and

even endos just shy away from it because its so heavily watched by

prescribing authorities etc.

That's surely not " borderline low " . Those levels are below the

average 80 year old man. And they are below the AACE guidelines for

intervention.

On it's own that's likely true. But there is hope you can jump start

it. It's somewhat like the tinkering has cut the communications wires

between the hypothalamus, pituitary and gonads. If you can get them

properly reconnected things may be able to be restarted.

Here's the link for the Clomiphene jump start case:

I'd suggest taking it to your doctor.

I think you have to deal with their psychology. Mention the history

with " when I was young and stupid " or some such deflater.

Almost all of us find we have to educate our doctors in this arena.

Your history means you will have somewhat more of an uphill fight and

a slightly harder time of it.

I suggest taking the graphs showing how low your numbers truly are

when compared to mean levels by age. Bring the Clomiphene article.

Last resort is get to Crisler. He may prescribe a therapy you can get

administered locally. I also understand he works with other doctors.

Phil can give you details to get to him. I believe his site is

www.allthingsmale.com . He was a body builder steroid user himself so

more open on your issues.

FYI - there are five doctors listed as practicing anti-aging medicine

in Boston in the " Finding a Doc " file. Only one has a phone that still

works, and the Doctor there told me that he is no longer doing

anti-aging medicine.

It is true that levels vary over the day. Natural level T tests are

usually as early as possible in the morning. (Natural levels peak

around 4 am. Tests are usually done between 8 am and 9 am.)

SO E2 is not your problem. But that's to be expected with the steroid

In approaching these doctors I'd suggest not using the phrase

" anti-aging medicine " . You should speak of hypogonadism and low

testosterone.

Much of the anti-aging field is quackery (in my humble opinion) and

seen that way by regulatory authorities and the public. It'll chase

away many doctors. I'd note too that four out of five doctors who

listed themselves that way have moved on to something or somewhere

else - I think that says something.

Just my two cents.

Unfortunately this is a problem area fraught with bad PR and

imperception that makes it hard for those who need treatment for low

levels. A lot of us find we need to gently guide our doctors into

agreeing to treatment and then subtly educate them along the way.

There are very very few doctors with a state of the art understanding

of hypogonadism and doctors have the same faulty ideas fed by the

media hype and such that the general public has.

Arg. It looks like has made the inks in the file area not

copyable.

Search the files area for " by age " . You'll get several tables.

Also search clomophine in the files area - you'll get the study.

CTRL-F will give you an on screen find capability.

I got an appointment with Spark, who I guess wrote a lot of

Hmm. Maybe you can get a bone density test. Low T can cause low bone

density. My levels at one point were hovering around 300, but they had

to continue TRT because I'd cracked 8 ribs with low bone density from

those levels. I'd argue the test is necessary to see the impact of

these levels.

Of course if it goes against you . . .

Hi,

Years ago, 1992, I visited Dr. Irwin Goldstein, Boston Univ. and

started TRIMIX injection therapy for ED. I visited several times since

then and each time pushed the doctor to consider providing TRT as it

is an essential need for older men in most cases.

He was hesitant then, but I hear now he has associates affiliated with

Boston Univ. which provide TRT.

He has a web site which may provide more information for you.

Avoid the Boston ED Clinic which is a chain around the US. Many have

reported problems with their service, trimix therapy specifically and

their costs were very high.
