Guest guest
Has anyone ever experienced severe side-effects from taking either a large dose of Indocin (75mg+) or methotrexate? Thanks. [Editor's Note: I'm curious as to why you would ask this question. Virtually any medication, if taken in a large enough dose, can cause very severe side effects. Indocin and MTX are powerful drugs in their own right even when taken at normally prescribed doses. No medication should EVER be taken above the prescribed dose without first consulting with your doctor. Damage from an overdose could be irreparable and even deadly. Guest guest
I recently discovered that Indocin can really affect your blood pressure. I had been taking 75mg timed release capsules twice a day for years. I was also having a hard time controlling my blood pressure. At my last Rheumatologist appt., my Dr. had me cut back to once a day. That was frightening to have to cut back, but I seem to be doing ok. Guest guest
Leonora: I second Kathy's Editor's Note. However, if you're still curious: 200 mg. of Indocin in 24 hours is as high as you ever want to go, and the effects of overdose center around the stomach (nausea, vomiting, etc.) and head (intense headaches). Not pretty. As for methotrexate: you want to stay under 25 mg. a week (generally considered the max oral dose); and as for " side effects " , severe is the word: those who experience the severe side effects of MTX are no longer around to detail the " experiences " .
