Hi Micky, I stopped taking cox 2 and started Naproxen. Last night on the television they said that it is now proven that Naproxen in large doses cause heart disease. They consider what I take large doses. What do we take??? Janet

MHRA the UK licensing body wrote to all Doctors instructing them to take all patients off of all -2 Inhibitors Hey everyone, I spent some time yesterday with some friends who are both in the pharmaceutical field. They both told me that the risks of the -2s are related to dosages being tested in clinical trials for cancer, which are much higher doses than we with arthritis typically take. The issue with Vioxx being recalled in the US is probably more related to the company not wanting to bear the costs of lawsuits than to being truly dangerous if taken as prescribed for arthritis. Just another perspective...I am planning to ask my rheumie when I go see her, as she usually requests copies of the studies vs. relying on info in the media. I have decided not to be too worried about this...

I think he is as confused as any of us. What we came up with is to take my 200 in the a.m. and not take my p.m. dose. The preliminary studies seem to show that 200 mg/daily does not cause side effects. He really is concerned & doesn't want to prescribe the " old " anti-inflammitories that can cause stomach ulcers. I feel comfortable with this interim arrangement until more concrete information is provided. Ever lurking Billie - have a wonderful stress/painfree holiday. Guest guest
Hi , I have been on Mobic for a couple of years and it seems to work where the others stopped working. I had my 3 month appt. with my Rheumy yesterday and we talked about it. Mobic is a COX-1 with a little of the COX-2 in it he said. So the studies do not affect Mobic. They are pulling their hair out trying to figure out what is going on. Now they are trying to say Aleve is bad for you and like he says, it has been out for 35 years and NOW they say it is bad. As someone else noted this looks like a feeding frenzy. I agree that you have to decide if you want to live with pain or go with some side affects. What does riding in a car do to your life expectancy vs just staying home and going no where. Eating a nice big juicy hamburger affects your heart also, but I'm not going to stop eating. Getting out of bed in the morning is a risk that all of us take. Just talk with you doctors before you raise your stress levels for maybe no reason. All of us were told there was risks and side affects with just about all the meds we need to live with as little pain as possible. So this is no big surprise to me and I decided my life was already over if I didn't use these drugs. So I am not going to complain now. Everyone have a nice and safe holiday.
